Annabeth
On the fifteenth day of July, 2014, it was a chilly Monday morning.
Annabeth paced restlessly around her room, wrapped in a thick blanket, and her phone clutched in her hand.
She refreshed the page displayed on the lit screen occasionally, awaiting the upload of the final shortlist.
She, and a few thousand others had waited with bated breath for months after submitting their publications for perusal to the management of the King's Crest royal academy. The news of the shortlist's upload had made the headlines a week ago, much to their relief. On July 15th, the final list would be made public.

It had been her childhood aspiration to be a member of the academy, hence her persistent application. This was her fourth time, and the last, she hoped.
She'd put in so much effort into developing herself and her work in the past years, sacrificing a lot of money and time to ensure she got nothing but the most accurate results.

If she got inducted, it would bring a great deal of relief to her indigent family. They would be assured of free health care and transport in the country, her siblings would get access to quality education and her monthly allowance would be enough to feed and cloth them. Most importantly, she would get all she needed in her research and who knows, she could make her big breakthrough!
It all depended on the shortlist though. Only ten aspirants in thousands would be inducted. Ten of the best thousand.
She sighed as she sat on the edge of her bed, wrapping the blanket tighter around herself, so much depended on her success and she didn't think she had the strength to go on if she failed yet again. She muttered words of prayer repeatedly till she fell asleep, curled up like a cat.
Minutes later, she stirred awake at the sound of a knock on her bedroom door.
Mrs. Ackleth poked her head into her daughter's room for the third time that day, “Annabeth dear, you should come down for dinner” she said “It's almost eight and you haven't eaten anything”
“Okay mama, just a minute. I'll come down this time I promise” Annabeth replied, picking up her phone and refreshing the Academy's homepage one more time.

At 9:17 P.M., Right next to her phone's lit-up screen, Annabeth's lifeless body was discovered in her room by her mother.

P.S: Hey guyssss, thanks for reading this story! A question for you though...what do you think transpired within the period Annabeth's mum last saw her alive and when she discovered her lifeless body?
