Nasty Breakup - Final Part
Josephine had disappeared to the neighbouring pubs to drink and returned past midnight. It was time to see a psychiatrist and seek professional help, their pastor had done everything possible and failed. Mark called his secretary, Jackie, to arrange a meeting with the renowned Bulamu family counsellor.

At first, she had refused to go, but he forced her into their maroon Rav4 SUV and drove off. She was in self-denial. He prayed their troubles and animosities would end soon. After a long and tedious session, the doctor requested them to see her every Wednesday. Josephine promised to be with him as they work through their marital problems.

The second session was an ultimate success, and he felt some warmth in his heart. Things would be better now. How wrong he was!

Then, Mark found Josephine one horrid afternoon, piling her clothes into her travel bags. He stood there shocked but did not stop her as warm tears trickled down his haggard face and grey beard. Primo followed them in every room, it was like the feline got wind of their problems too, but also the cat was hungry. He had forgotten when he had last fed her.

He pulled out a flat beige sauce from the cupboard, and opened the ADH refrigerator and poured some milk on it. He also added some Weetabix breakfast cereals and Primo purred with joy as she slurped the milk.

By now, she had finished her packing. Her pink Redmi 10 phone rang, and she spoke animatedly for a few minutes. She requested the caller to send her an Uber.

A man's voice on the other end of the phone was distinctive and authoritative. He knew that deep, slurry voice. It was familiar, and he had heard it often.

He stared at her now, not believing what he had heard. It was as if he was seeing her for the first time. Her dark face was impassive, and he realized she had fallen in love with his boss, the CEO of Trident Technologies. How ironic!

Mark collapsed in his sturdy, rocking chair, and gazed outside his window. Everything had turned blurry; darkness had descended on him now. He had felt a light kiss on his cheek, and then footsteps faded away in the distance. When he regained his senses, she was long gone.

Primo licked his face ferociously, trying to wake him up. He pulled his cat in his lap and stroked her gently. Animals are intelligent, he concluded. They can read human emotions.

Life had to move on. Sometimes, breakups happen, but also can be a blessing in disguise. He had fought a long and worthless battle, and he was glad it was over. Nobody will ever teach you love, not at school or learning it from your peers. Even experts do not have all the answers about the love mysteries. It was time to open a new chapter in his life.

At 47 years, Mark knew life would not be easy, but sometimes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. What is more important than all the riches in the world? He concluded there are many illusions in this life, it is prudent to tread softly. He will find someone to love and raise a family together.
