REPENTANCE
TEXT: Isa.55:7 "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him
return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he wil
l abundantly pardon."
KEY VERSE:
Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when
the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord,."
Repentance is total turning away from all known sin. It means to stop doing evil and start doing good.
To repent means turning around from sin and self-pleasing lifestyle unto holy living.
To come to Christ
means that the sinner turns his back on the world and forsake all cherished sins and turns to Christ.
The sinner who comes to Christ for salvation must forsake all sinful pleasures and worldly companions and
receive Him as Savior and Lord.
Ezekiel 14:6.
EVIDENCE OF REPENTANCE
1. Godly Sorrow leads to Repentance* :
Sorrow for sins is often associated with repentance but ít is
such sorrow which causes an abhorrence or hatred for sin.
It leads the sinner to turn away from sin
with all his heart.
2 Cor.7: 10-11; Psalm 38:18; Psalm 51:17
2. Right Attitude Towards Sin:*
When the penitent manifests the proper attitudes towards sin, it is an
evidence of true repentance.
No sinner can be said to have repented who treats sin with levity.
Sin is exceedingly sinful.
3. Restitution as an essential part of Repentance:
God requires, so far as it lies within your
power that you make right every wrong against others.
Restitution, or a straightening up of the past. is
therefore absolutely necessary to and essential part of, true repentance.
Ezekiel 33:14-15; Leviticus 6:2-5:
Num.5:5-8;
Matt.5: 23-24; Acts 19:19; Num.33:52; Luke 19:8
4.Turning away from sin:
Not going back to sin is an evidence of true
repentance, that one stop committing sin.
