The footsteps following him sounded as if they were getting closer. He ran through the empty corridors of the hospital, his heart pounding with terror.

He turned a corner and stopped short. He'd reached a dead end. He came to this country from a war torn village in Syria which has become a hostile land.

As a refugee, his application refused, months spent idly in the detention centre has taken it's toll a sense of desperation now paramount, his mind racing with missed opportunities and angles of freedom from this incarceration.

Keep moving, stay ahead, footsteps draw ever closer flashbacks, intruding on his thoughts like a jigsaw puzzle that needs putting together.

Memories of family and friends so distant, but keeping him sane, months in isolation can turn you insane.

The tribulations that come with it, lengthy periods causing serious mental distress, depression, anxiety and substance misuse, some of the reasons for him ending up there.

Due to this, his health has suffered and due to a lack of nourishment and fluids and constant depression and stress the authorities admitted him into hospital.

He realised running away never solved anything.
