It started honest, it started pure
True intentions that were said to be forever more

There was love and embrace and all of the experiences a relationship will face

But behind the facade of love and truth, there was deception and lies

And to think all the time your tears that I wiped away were the ones that fell from your masked intent

Behind my back you painted a picture against me in the wrong light, to make yourself leave to make others see why you took flight

And all of my resentments stayed for so long because I trusted you and you broke me and I found myself unwound

Years had passed and the remainder stayed as a shadow in my mind, but all of your hurt allowed me to find--

The one I wasn't looking for but always deserved,
And now I tell her honest words that you never could have heard

Because they were never meant for you, but the one who I was meant for,
Which is why you're a memory and nothing more.
