The Diamond Necklace
#WritcoStoryPrompt5
The diamond necklace on the mannequin looked familiar. She placed her palm on the window that separated them and leaned in closer. She took one more peek and was sure it was the same piece. She could not be mistaken as this necklace was very dear to her. Her mom had gifted it to her on her wedding and she remembered her initials too were engraved on the back. She wanted to be hundred percent sure so she walked into the jewellery store.
She asked the sales girl to show her the necklace. It was undoubtedly an exquisite piece ,delicate and beautifully crafted. As she turned it she saw her initials on the back. Tears welled up in her eyes. She recalled the incident about six months back when there was a robbery in their house, when they were away on a vacation. Cash and other valuables were stolen but this necklace gone created a void. After all it was her Mother's last gift. So it naturally held a lot of sentimental value to it. The police had tried to nab the culprits but all efforts were in vain. She too had given up hope of finding the necklace and seeing it today in the jewellery store was surprising.
She walked up to the store owner and enquired the details of the necklace. " A woman had come about two weeks back ,saying she was in need of money and wanted to sell it. We generally don't buy diamonds from random people ,said the owner. But this piece was so beautiful and quality of diamonds excellent that I could not resist . I paid that lady a handsome price for it ". She was bewildered. She told him the whole story about the robbery, and their complaint with the police. The store owner was shocked. She requested him to give her the details of the lady and show the CCTV footage so that she could be traced by the police.
A search hunt started and soon the gang was nabbed, hiding on the outskirts of the city. They were lying low untill the matter cooled down but one wrong step by their gang member led them all behind bars.
She was overjoyed to have the necklace back. It was a miracle indeed and her Mother's blessings with it that it found its way back to where it really belonged.
