"An Hour in the Apex Bank" By Ibaiahun S Muthoh
I've never experienced what would going to the Bank be like. The 1st June, 2020 was the second time I visited the bank for withdrawing money. The Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank is nearby our house, so going there doesn't consume time; approximately, it may take one or two minutes to reach the bank.

It's a lockdown period because of the pandemic disease "COVID-19". I was thinking of going to the bank early for I thought that it would rain. In contrast to my thoughts, the weather was clear and idyllic. I left the household work and went to the bank. My brother accompanied me half-way. As I looked up to the bank, I saw that there were few people. At once I thought that the whole day might be wasted because I've never experienced how long it would take to be in the bank! Since it was my second visit, I tried to be fully confident. I walked and walked until I reached the staircases leading up to the bank. There were two women standing on the staircases. I was wondering why they stood there and not going up. When I looked at the gate, it was locked.

The women smiled at me and told me that the gate was already closed since the time they arrived. I thought of going back, but then my mind diverted to staying back. I stood on the staircase looking at the vehicles running on the road. The women were busy talking, and I was busy thinking about the Lockdown. I was busy looking at the people wearing masks. I was frightened a bit because I didn't wear a mask. I turned my head around to look if the police was there or not. When I saw that there was no police, I started feeling comfortable.

After a few minutes, two more women came and started asking about the locked gate. We had to wait for long time. I was tired to stand; I sat on the staircase and was busy with imagination. The women were garrulous, and I didn't like it. The place was congested. I tried to be patient until the security came and unlashed the gate.

To be continued.......
