A Life Forgotten, A Life Remembered. Part 18
      Part 18
  A Scheduled Date

Dreading the climb up the stairs, I felt exhausted, and all I wanted was my bed.

I lay there thinking about tonight's weird encounter with Dominik.
I stared at the envelope sticking out of my bag, and reached for it.
I felt it's thickness, and
my first thought was money, but how much I wondered.
Tired as fuck, but it was no surprise that my curiosity would win.

I started to open it when a knock on my door startled me. I looked at the clock, it was three fifteen.
My instincts kicked in, and I reached in my bag for Mae.

Ah, Mae is my beautiful nine milimeter that Natasha's brother, Brandon gave me after an incident occurred one night as I was leaving the cafe.

I went to the door, but didn't see anyone through the peephole.
Waited a few seconds for another knock, nothing.

I asked,
  " Who is it?"

There was no answer,
so I went to the window, and whispered to myself,
  " What the fuck!"

Out on the street, Malekai's car was parked. I didn't want to react without hearing what he had to say, but honestly, I was pissed.

Down the stairs I went with Mae in my hand.
I don't know how this mutha found out where I live, unless he followed us. Nevertheless, he's got some explaining to do.

I walked around the back of the car with my nine pointed at the driver's side. I stood a few paces away, then I said rather loudly.

" Malekai, get out of the car, and show me your hands "

I couldn't see inside on account of the dark window tint.
No one came out, and again I demanded with a threat.

" Get out of the fuckin car, or I will start shooting!"

Finally the door slowly opened, and Malekai stepped out with his hands in view.

He moved as he used his body to close the door.
Calm as fuck, which was too much for my comfort.
He kept his eyes on Mae without making any sudden moves.

I asked,
  "Why are you here?"

He answered without lowering his hands.

" Ms. Shannon I do apologize, but my boss gave me specific orders to make sure you arrived safely to your destination."

I was annoyed by Dominik's persistence, and angry for this invasion of my privacy.
I was also disappointed that he didn't understand that when a woman says no, it really means no.
Either he doesn't know, which I doubt, or he doesn't care.
Either way he was in need of a lesson.

I said,
" You know, around here a person could get shot for stalking."

Malekai's expression was unreadable, but I didn't feel threatened by him. I clicked the safety back on, and slowly he lowered his hands.

Easing his way towards the front of the car,
he said,
"Ms. Shannon, I am also here to ask if you would join him."

I was a little surprised, and I asked,
  " What? Now?"

He replied,
" Yes, now is what he said."

As politely as I possibly could I said,
" Look, please tell him that I thank him for his bizzare concern for me, and the strange invite at this hour, but my answer is still no."

I turned to walk away, then stopped to add,
"My apologies once again for the wasted trip you had to make. I'm sure you have better things to do than chase a woman around for someone else."

He stood there watching me, but said nothing.

I continued,
" I'm really tired, and all I want is to sleep in my own bed."

He bowed his head, the went to his car.

I'm not sure why, but I felt bad for him, and I wondered if he'd be in trouble for failing to bring me back to Dominik.

I continued towards the door, and waved without looking back.

I said,
" Goodnight Malekai, have a safe trip back to wherever it is you came from."

Once inside I didn't bother to check if the car was gone. I opened the envelope, and was surprised to see it contained a few hundred dollars, ten to be exact.

  I asked myself,
" Why would he give me this?"

It had to be a mistake, I definitely should return it. I checked the envelope again, and a card fell out.

It read,

   My darling
     Shannon,
   a token of my
      gratitude
   for the pleasure
 of your company
           D.

I thought, no it couldn't be, could it!

I started looking for the card I had yesterday. It wasn't like me to forget, but I couldn't remember what I did with it.

Retracing what I did, then suddenly, bam.
I walked over to the coffee pot, and said,
  " There it is."

I placed them side by side to compare the writing. Well well, they were identical down to the initial.

I whispered,
" Who are you? What do you want from me?"

A low whisper responded,
"Come to me my love."

I looked at the date on the card, and it wasn't for another month.
I thought my exhaustion was impairing my vision, because my sight began to blur, or was it the ink.
It started to smear before my very eyes, then the date had changed for today.
Thinking of the initial D, I then said,

     " Dominik"

I closed my eyes, and visions came in fast. They flashed in and out of my head, playing over, and over from the date, to the initial. I grasped at the air, trying to catch, and hold on to an image.
The scheduled date, an appointment made.
The card next to the wine glasses, the intoxicating liquid, and a gift.
A gift from him, an envelope with a white card. No, not a card, it was soft, and delicate, like lace. Yes, a gown stained with blood. Not blood, it was hair, my hair long, and red, and flames,
living, moving over me hot, and sensual like hands, his hands. Dominik's hands.

My eyes opened, and I said,
" Dominik, it was you I was with that night."

  He called out to me.
" Come to me my love."

I asked,
  " Who are you?
What do you want
    from me?"

Again he whispered,
" Come to me."

The pull was so strong, I could not resist it.
I stood up, and walked out the door.

Malekai was waiting by the passenger back door.
As I approached him, he held his hand out to help me into the back seat.
He closed the door, and all was quiet except for the purring sound of the motor.
It was dark, and the only illumination came from the dashboard light.

  And so we were off.
Where that
  destination was,
I didn't know.
   At the moment,
      I didn't care.
