Jake's eyes seemed to hold a thousand secrets. I needed answers.


"Jake, tell me about your past," I said, my voice gentle but firm.


Jake's gaze drifted away, his jaw clenched. "I was young, reckless. I got in with the wrong crowd."


"The organization?" Alex asked, his voice low.


Jake nodded. "They promised power, money, and protection. I was blinded by the allure."


"What happened?" I pressed.


Jake's eyes darkened. "I realized too late that I was trapped. The organization's grip was suffocating. I had to escape."


"Who helped you?" Alex asked.


Jake's expression softened. "Someone I trusted. Someone who saw the good in me."


"Who?" I asked.


Jake's gaze locked onto mine. "Her name was Sarah. She was my lifeline."


Sarah? Who was she?


"What happened to Sarah?" I asked.


Jake's face fell, his voice barely above a whisper. "She didn't make it out. The organization... they silenced her."


My heart ached for Jake's loss....
