NIGHTMARE ESCAPE
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The footsteps following me sounded closer. I ran through the empty corridors of the hospital, my heart pounding with terror.
I turned a corner and stopped short. I had reached a dead end.
I was afraid of turning back. I could hear the footsteps right behind me. My breathing was heavy and so was my heart.
But I needed to get out. My family was waiting for me. I sucked in a breath and tightened my fist.
The footsteps had stopped completely.
"No where to go now, right experiment?"
The voice said.
I turned around slowly.
The same face with that creepy smile greeted me.
The smile sent shivers down my back. He was holding a large scissor with blood dripping down from it. The sound of the blood hitting the floor made me nauseous.
"Don't worry. You will only feel a little pain nothing much, experiment" He said.
My guts twisted at hearing the word experiment. He considers us all experiments. The others...
I don't know what happened to them after I blacked out. Though I can make a guess by seeing all the blood splattered on the walls and the floor of the 'experiment' room.
I tried to get my fear under control.
I have to get out. Now.
"Listen. Um please let me go. I will do anything" I begged him.
He started chuckling and soon he was laughing loudly. His laughter was ringing all around.
"Do you really think that would work? You are so naive experiment"
He took a step closer to me.
I had to think of something. I had to get out.
Flight is no longer an option. I have to fight now. It's my onle chance at survival.
I moved towards him without wasting a second.
I put my fist out and punched him on the side of his face.
He was taken aback. He had not been expecting that all all.
But the surprise quickly vanished and that creepy smile was back on his face.
"You can't beat me, Haha" he laughed and stopped abruptly.
"Now it's my turn" He took a swing at me. I barely ducked but it had put us on the opposite side.
Now he was against the wall and I had a chance to run.
I turned and started to run away from him. I was about to turn a corner, when I felt a sharp pain in my calf. I cried out loud.
I looked down.
The large scissor was dug in my leg. I looked back.
He was walking slowly towards me while laughing crazily.
I had to endure the pain. There was no way I will stop because of a small pain.
I ran ignoring the pain.
After running for how long, I came face to face with a door. A board was there on which was written tools.
I needed to find a exit. But there seemed no end to this hospital.
I checked the door. It was unlocked.
I opened the door and slipped inside quietly, locking the door from the inside.
The room was dark so I switched on the light.
But that was probably a mistake. The room was filled with bloody saws, knifes, drills, scissors and many more things. I almost puked.
But I tried to hold it in. I could use these against him. Though I could never kill anyone but I could severely injure him.
I sat down on the floor to rest. My eyes were heavy but I couldn't sleep. I had to get out first.
I looked down at my leg. Blood had soaked through my pants.
I tried to remove the scissor.
At the count of 123 I pulled out the scissor. I let out a short yelp.
I looked around and found some bandages.
I got up slowly and got those and bandaged my calf tightly. It hurt.
I shut my eyes in pain. My breathing was heavy and loud.
I tried to slow it down.
Just when I was feeling a little safe, I heared a bang at the door.
My heart started racing.
"Haha. You thought you could hide from me experiment. Haha" He was laughing while banging loudly.
"Now open this door and I will be gentle with you"
I stood up and grabbed a knife.
It was bloody but I had no choice. I looked around to see if there was any way out.
The banging increased and so my heartbeat.
I walked across to the opposite wall, trying to get as far as possible from the door and that maniac.
"Open the door now!! " He was shouting now.
My body was quivering. I looked around once more.
I noticed a beam of light coming from behind a bunch of cardboard boxes.
Light probably means a window or something.
I quickly made my way there. I removed the cardboard boxes and there it was.
It was not a window but a small door.
The glasses were cracked and sunlight was coming through it. I bent down and saw a road and a few houses. It was probably late afternoon. Tho the houses were a little far way and but if could crack the glass maybe I could escape.
The banging stopped. I looked at the door. It was silent for a few seconds then a drilling sound came. He was drilling the door! I thought scared.
I had to get out now. I looked around and found a rusty spade. I picked it up and smashed it against the glass. The glass completely broke. I dropped the knife and removed the shards and looked back at the door.
The door was barely holding it. Idiot could have used a key but maybe his brain is not working anymore. I chuckled and was grateful that luck was on my side.
I bent down and ran away. Away from that maniac and away from that horrible nightmare. I ran with all my might. I was close to one of the houses when I looked back.
The maniac was waving at me through the door with that same creepy smile.
I turned around and ran to the door of a house. I rang the door bell multiple times. A gentle voice came from inside.
"I am coming. I am coming. What's the hurry? "
The door opened and a women in probably her late thirties was standing there.
She looked at me with worry and said
"Oh dear. What happened to you? Come inside. You need to get treated. "
She ushered me in.
I limped in. A man was sitting on the couch probably her husband.
"Honey, he needs help. Take him to the hospital"
The word hospital scared me. I tried to protest but I was too weak and I had lost too much blood.
The man put down the newspaper he was reading and stood up.
"Are you okay? What happened? "
"Honey no time for questions. Take him to the hospital now. " His wife scolded him lightly.
"Okay okay"
Then everything happened so quickly I couldn't keep up.
The next I knew I was at the hospital lying on a bed. It was not the same hospital I thought relieved.
The nurses had just lied me down. I was almost losing consciousness.
They had called my family a while ago that's all I could make out from all the conversations happening around me.
Then my mind completely blacked out and the last thing I heard was
"Daddy... "
