A PLACE CALLED HOME. Part 2
A place called home. part 2

by Oluwatoyin Magbagbeola.

"Jude! Wake up! Or you will be late for school."

Jennifer quietly carried her second child off the bed. He is totally the Mommy's boy. Her two sons love their mother more than anything in the world. They found comfort in their mother more than their father who hardly spent time with them. Chike doesn't spend time with the kids, he prefers going on business trips and focusing too much on work, than his two children who still need his guidance and presence.

"Mommy, I want to stay home with you, can I not go to school?"
Jude complained to his mother while getting dressed. He doesn't like going to school and had complained multiple times to his parents, but his mother saw it as an excuse, but little Jude has been getting bullied by his classmates in school, unknown to her.

He had kept the secret to himself to avoid being judged by his father, who saw him weak and questioned his birth most of the time. Chike loves his older son, for he resembled him and unfortunately took over his character. Chike is a little narcissistic, and full of himself. Daniel, his first son, had also shown the sign of being narcissistic, but under his mother's watch, she would never allow that.

"Sweety, but mommy has to go to work. Don't worry when you come back from school I will take you out. I promise!".

Jennifer reassured her son. She is not sure whether there is still a chance for her to pass the interview, but she is giving it her all. She has to, if she wants to provide for herself and the kids.

With the promise, Jude agreed to still keep things to himself. He doesn't want to disappoint his mother. He will continue to keep holding on until he is ready to talk.

After minutes of getting her kids ready, she made them a simple breakfast before dropping her kids off school. She notified Jude's teacher that she would be a little late to pick him up, and begged her to keep a watch over him. She had no problems with Daniel, he can take good care of himself. With no worries, she left for her interview.

Upon arrival, she saw many capable individuals who also came for the interview. She felt timid at first but decided to give it a go. She had waited for her turn before she was called in. It was a surprise when she met Adekunle, her older brother's friend, who once had a crush on her, but couldn't get a chance with Jennifer. Adekunle owns the investment company, and he is part of the judges who judged the interviewers.

"Jennifer Okafor?"

"Brother Adekunle?"

The room appeared surprised by the unexpected reunion, burning questions rages in their minds on if the two know each other.

"Oh, sorry. She is my best friend's sister."
He cleared up the room to avoid unnecessary assumptions.

It's been more than five years since they last saw each other. He was there for her wedding, where he gave his last goodbye to his crush. He had always liked Jennifer for so long, but Jennifer wasn't aware of it. He felt she would never see him as a man. To avoid being turned down, he liked her secretly, but doted on her openly. Although his own marriage failed, he wished Jennifer was still holding strong in her marriage.

"It's been four years, I think!".
Jennifer said to him after the interview. She didn't remember when they last saw each other, but Adekunle came to the rescue of correcting her, which made her a little ashamed and uncomfortable. She had never paid so much attention to him, and now she regretted not doing so.

"So, How are you exactly? How is your husband, the kids?"
He questioned.

Before she could answer, her phone rang. It was Jude's headmaster. She had called to inform her that Jude had been taken to the hospital. He was heavily beaten up by his bullies, and had passed out.

Jennifer's heart was beating faster, it was as if she had a heart problem. The call made her upset and troubled. Had she known she would have listened to her son, and not sent him to school.
"She would have been a better mom to her children". "She would have listened to them more often".
These words kept popping in her head. What would she do if something terrible happened to her son? .
