Stop Promoting Revenge Porn

(This one is quite long... but kindly read till the end. Thank you.)

Just like the previous eras in the history of mankind, like the iron age, bronze age and so on—the 21st century too, has a name befitting it—the technological era; or more appropriately, the digital era.
This is indeed an age where communication happens within mere seconds.
An average person can access a vast variety of news, pictures, books, videos and much more that before he/she can even blink twice.

And just like any other revolution, the technological era, too, has its own list of dangerous banes—many of which don’t seem to be issues too vexatious to the tech-masses, simply because they feel that they already have too many problems in their own life, to give a thought about others.

Yet, with all available sources of education and self-awareness, we as a heterogeneous society, fail to realise that certain moral duties fall within the terms and conditions of our fundamental rights.

The obsession of the human mind with sexual pleasure is nothing new—it has been there for ages, and will be present for centuries to come.

In 2016, Internet pornographic websites ranked #1 among the most searched-for sites on Google.

However, in sync with this new and seemingly private, harmless means of self-pleasure, society has seen the advent of a new form of crime – revenge porn.

Revenge porn, as the name suggests, in its rawest sense, is-- pornographic revenge.

Say for example, someone breaks up with person A, and so person A hides a spy-camera inside the ex-lover’s bathroom and films them without their consent or knowledge.

Not only women, but also men as well as individuals of other genders can become innocent victims of this terrible new form of cyber crime.

‘Watching’ someone without their permission is undeniably wrong and recording it with the latest HD quality I-phone or a high-resolution spy-cam makes it a million times worse.

A rape video is the most disturbing and extreme form of revenge porn. Rape, by itself, is a terrible, bestial act of cowardice and ego, and the way a rape video goes ‘viral’ with the god-forsaken option of ‘forwarding’, pushes the victim, if alive, towards the dark end called suicide.

It is indeed shameful that so many people who are wealthy enough to afford the latest technology, are yet so insensitive that their fingers do not tremble to ‘send’ such horrific videos to their friends via whatsapp or other forms of social media.

Correct me if I’m wrong, reporting such a video to the police or directly bringing it to the attention of the cyber-crime department will not only help to provide justice for the victim and his/her family, inasmuch as act as an upliftment of your own sense of dignity, alongside that of your family’s.

This is no act of glorious heroism, but a fundamental duty that each person dwelling in society should be fulfilling, the which should arise from the very sense of self-respect, consideration, respect and other such qualities which makes humans superior to the rest of the animal kingdom.

Summing it all up, we all use the same social media sites... and any person is of as criminal mindset as the sender and/or the person/persons who have succumbed to perversion—unless you report it and bring it to legal attention.

What is wrong is wrong.

A bystander is at fault as much as the wrongdoer(s).

Let us fulfil our duties as the members of the mentally sane part of a digital population of over 3 billion.

And unlike COVID-19, revenge porn, a crime as heinous as gang-rape itself, was started by and can be ended only by humans themselves.
