Persuasive Essay (not story) *must read*
Would you text during class again? Should schools regulate the use of cellphones during class? I believe that schools must change the rules on the use of electronic devices because students are easily distracted from their studies, they have little or no interest in the subject and are stressed during evaluations.

The cellphone’s notification feature is a great way of being informed about what’s going on in the social world, but it can also be a major source of interruption. When students don’t use their cellphones during class, there is less distraction which improves their ability to focus and learn. According to a report published by the Journal of Communication Education in 2013, students who did not have access to a cell phone performed better in class. A video lecture was viewed by students from two different classes, where one group was not permitted to keep their phones with them, and the other group was allowed to use their phones. They were told to make notes during the lecture and the group that did not have their cell phones with them, wrote down 62% more detailed information. Using cellphones during class distracts not only the student, but also the teacher and other students who are trying to concentrate on the lesson. Distraction, especially by cellphones, can lead to discipline issues as well as no interest in learning.

Cellphones are approved in schools in order to provide students with tools and apps that assist them in staying on top of their work, but are they really used for that purpose? Given that attention declines over time, excessive smartphone use in the classroom has an effect on concentration and interest. Smartphone apps and messages, according to psychologist Danielle Einstein, affect dopamine release, nce of a mobile phone during a school can impede learning. Constantly using a cellphone blocks the mind, leading users to be frustrated. Thus, the attention span keeps decreasing over time. This is applicable for all cellphone users and not just students. They lose track of time and do not feel like doing anything else as they continue browsing through the phone. Having no interest in school subjects can have long-term consequences, especially in terms of grades.

When it comes to assessments, students struggle to understand concepts and notes. It is hard for them to differentiate what they should be doing from what they are doing. Many agree that smartphones should be used in schools for educational purposes, and that students should be able to learn how to live in the modern world through them. However, students are tempted to use other apps and websites that takes them away from their studies, which is disadvantageous in future decision-making. As a result, they become concerned during evaluations about the lessons they have missed or do not understand. According to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in February 2019, 70% of teenagers consider anxiety and depression to be major issues among their peers, especially during exams. Most of this pressure is because of cellphones. Students are unaware of the time they spend on their phones. This diverts their attention away from the task at hand, which is completing homework and assignments, and learning. Consequently, they become stressed during evaluations as they are unable to study. Many researches also link smartphone use to mental laziness. No focus in studies can cause stress and frustration during tests and exams.

More than comfort, smartphones and electronic devices cause indirect long-term issues with mental, physical, social and emotional health, which mainly affects students. Allowing cellphones in schools creates distraction, which leads to a lack of interest in subjects, which in turn affects students' performance during assessments. Despite the fact that different circumstances dictate different needs, students should be taught about the dangers of just a cellphone. They should be trained to identify when to use the phone for its primary purposes and when to avoid it because of non-essential reasons. We all know that "actions speak louder than words," so let's make an effort to raise awareness of how a student's mind can be shattered by just a small electronic device.
