A few days ago I read a news that a famous international footballer of a certain country spends almost all of his huge income on charity among the poors. He lives a simple life wearing only old watches and clothes. Even the mobile phone is very common. Who does not like to hear about such a donar !
We being from the land of Donar Karna , munificient Harishchandra, have more reason to rejoice. On top of that, the current Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamatamayi is also a great bountiful person , who has a soul for poor and distressed , is living only by wearing a 200 rupees college fringe saree and 50 rupees Hawai slippers, but has opened all the stalls for the poor to survive, one of which is Laksh's stall. .
I remember this because the girl named 'Lakshi' left work of our house and went back to her father-in-law's house in Medinipur, the purpose was to go there and make Aadhaar card in the groom's house and get Lakshi's wealth. Although the request came from the in-laws. I think it's good, because why would a married girl leave her in-laws' house and lie in a mess with her mother at Jharkhand ? That too where you can eat only after exercising physical labour . In other words, in Mamatamayi's project, Lakshi got two owls in one deal, a lot of money, and the love of groom. Oh, isn't it a donation ? But yes it burned my wife's forehead. Because it took two months to search the new 'Lakshi Thakur' in which my wife of two mounds weight dropped to sixty kilos. However, I did not blame Mamtamayi at all considering it to be just like the calculation of Newton's third law.
Anyway, I also started thinking of myself as a donor because sometimes I send some money online to NGOs like Ketto etc.
This is a year ago while visiting Puri in the afternoon at Swargadwar Sea - Beach, we two after aquatic sports while eating fish fry in the crimson light of sun getting hidden off the path while running madly to enlight other get noise of music from mike and due to increase speed of eating fish fry got fish bone stuck in throat . Anyhow , after eating, I want to go to the source of music , my partner says I will go to the shops and markets. So I emptied what was in my pocket and said I will go to the song via 'ATM', you call and find out at the end of the market.
I got an 'ATM', took the money and went a little further and noticed the small stage on the sand by the road along the beach.
A banner of their organization and a tin donation box were placed in front. But there was no need for separate lights, the work was going on from the street pole lights.
Some of the sight Divyang boys and girls were singing, some girls had babies in their arms. There was also a light gathering of audience . After listening to two or three songs, I put a 500 rupee note in the donation box from the money I just got from the ATM and started the expenses.
A little later, after knowing my location over phone and being reassured, she advised me - stay there as if your feet were on wheels again, after I reassured her for the second time, wife reached there with a big packet on hand. Both of us are listening to music by changing hands with packet . At that time a girl asked me for 50 rupees retail. My wife gave it , as I didn't have it. Many others gave 10, 20, 50, 100 and even 200 rupees. The wife asked - you gave it? Yes I have given it. how much? Five hundred . Yes! This surprising word helped me to think of myself as a big donar , so the answer was silence.
However, I returned to the rest house.
But the girl's desperation to retail 50 rupees to donate there caught my attention.
Bought by the wife, the things were seen, calculated and matched (although there is nothing to do if there is a discrepancy, because I leave here in the morning),it was 7000 rupees.
I thaught - of this 7000 rupees, the net profit is definitely 20% i.e. 1400 rupees. Moreover, 10% i.e. 700 rupees must be paid to employees. Rest of light fan etc. at least 10% ie 700 rupees, total 2800 rupees. That means wife's donation amounting to Rs 2800 which is definitely unknown to her (other wise surely it would have been a bit late for Bargaining.) which will reach different hands like that of the girl. With this engagement, the opportunity to learn work, the opportunity to grow ahead , the opportunity to earn with self-respect. So the pride of my donation vanished into the waves of the sea of Puri. So far the idea on kind of charity has changed. Now it seems that spending what we call luxuries is a kind of donation, not an mere donation but a good donation.
