Today, as Dr. Anjali lies on her bed, she finds herself immersed in memories of her childhood in a remote village of Assam. It was a time when she was merely four years old, and her mother had been admitted to a maternity hospital, preparing to welcome her baby brother into the world. In those days, there were no telephones, no mobile phones, and the transportation system was far from reliable. The villagers had to travel long distances on foot.
Young Anjali never received any updates about her mother's well-being from the hospital. Her only solace came from eagerly anticipating her father's return from town, hoping to catch a glimpse of her mother alongside him. As the days passed by, she would sit on the veranda of their small house, cradling her two-year-old sister on her lap. Despite her tender age, Anjali shouldered the responsibility of caring for her sister in the absence of their mother. Her eyes, filled with longing, would fixate on the gate, yearning for her mother's return.

Due to financial constraints, their father couldn't afford a car to bring her mother back from the hospital. Thus, her mother had made the arduous journey on foot, traversing a great distance to reach her beloved family. Exhausted from the ordeal, her mother sank into a chair in a room, seeking respite.

Despite her tender age, Anjali, with all her might, took on the responsibility of caring for her mother. She lovingly served her mother food, doing her best to provide comfort and support. As Anjali observed her mother's weary countenance from the corner of the room, tears welled up in her young eyes. Her heart ached, witnessing the pain her mother had endured, and she resolved to be there for her in every way she could.
