The teacher spoke again, addressing Fran, "It's been a while since someone has pleasantly surprised me like this, Fran!"
Fran turned to him at his words, and a smile spread across his face. "I'm glad to hear that, teacher."
The teacher added, sounding somewhat suspicious, "I just don't understand how you managed to do so well on the test now, when the first time you barely got a couple of points."
Fran nervously scratched his head and blushed, remembering Anja and all the help she had given him. Before Fran could say anything, the teacher figured it out on his own. He smiled and told him, "Whoever helped you with your studying deserves to be treated to a drink."
Mateo didn't hesitate, he immediately nudged Fran in the arm and smirked, "Did you hear that, Fran?"
Fran looked away, out the window, in a desperate attempt to hide his discomfort. But it was more than obvious. The teacher smiled briefly once again, his eyes fixed on Fran, and then turned towards the blackboard.
"Well, now that we've gone over the test results and chatted a bit about them, we could get to work, what do you say, my students?"
The classroom was filled with murmurs and disappointed cries. None of the students were particularly thrilled with the teacher's suggestion, but what could they do?
"We have to move on with the material." The teacher added and stood up from his chair, then turned his back and began writing something on the board.
After class, when they walked out into the school hallway, Fran and Mateo noticed Anja. Together with a few girls from her class, she was walking in their direction, looking thoughtfully straight ahead and not noticing them at all. When she approached them a few steps away, Fran called out to her and finally caught her attention, "Hey Anja."
Anja turned around and stopped somewhat awkwardly with a confused expression, until she saw Fran on her right side. Her face then lit up with a smile, and while the girls from her class just continued on, she took a step closer to Fran.
"Hey Fran, what's up?" She asked him with her always cheerful expression. Fran didn't say anything, he just took off his backpack and opened its compartment. Anja looked at him confusedly, but in a few moments, when Fran pulled out his test and showed it to her, everything became clear to her. She looked at the test, then at Fran, and her jaw dropped in surprise.
"You... got an A?" She asked, pointing at the test.
