The Lone Girl (Chapter: 13)
RESUMING THE FLASHBACK: That Night
(Narrated by Agnes)
‘It was a silent night in October. A pack of grey wolves was howling in the distance. They sounded like they were in distress. It snowed a little but it was no bother. Jones and Merida showed up at our house at about a quarter to ten. I hugged Merida tightly. A familiar feeling of nostalgia brushed past me.
I started crying like a little child. I couldn’t hold my overwhelming feelings anymore. Merida wrapped her arms around me and said that none of this was my fault. Jones went over to his brother but he only scowled at him. He asked him what had happened for him to behave in such a repulsive manner. At first he wouldn’t say a word. Eventually Jones got tired of his behavior and their conversation was too unpleasant to hear.
Fernandez got all worked up and started acting cuckoo. I immediately asked Merida about Edward and Eva trying to ignore the heated argument out of the corner of my eye.
Merida told me that she didn't have time to see if both of them had slept as they had to rush in here. But she was convinced that Edward would be responsible enough to put Eva to bed. He would take care of her as he loved his little sister a lot.
At that time I thought of Felicia. I knew she was upstairs in her bedroom but uncertain if she was asleep. Maybe she was playing with her figures. I didn’t want this fight to disturb her by any means. I tried to hush the brothers but I realized it was only getting worse.
It got really intense. The fight...
