The Good Advice
#WritcoStoryPrompt17
The last bullet left the muzzle of his rifle with a deafening bang. It took with it all his capability of living a normal life, with more than enough money to live it which was his aim in his attempt at bank robbery. Robbery by the suggestion of a "gang friend" who promised him a home in their gang and a life where he can escape poverty only if and when he accomplishes this bet first.
He had run a simulation of how everything would go in his head, it was foolproof, and with his friend revving the engine of the car outside, waiting for his return for them both to flee with lumpsome of cash, nothing should have gone wrong.
But in the blink of an eye, it did and someone got shot, the security guard, as he was trying to divert the gunman's attention away from the bank teller whom was trying to sneakily push the alarm that would signal the police to arrive, within minutes of the alert, and thus intervene. In a momentary state of shock and disbelief at what he had done, breathing heavily, he slowly made his way over to the side of the innocent person he had accidentally shot. The other hostages were petrified with fear as he took those steps closer. Suddenly, he heard he loud roaring noise as tires squealed on the pavement. Hurriedly surveying the scene, he noticed that his friend was nowhere to be seen. He had sped off without him, leaving him there alone to deal with the aftermath.
Out of nowhere, his late grandmother's words echoed in his head, "Friends can bring you to places and never bring you back."
The panic started as he was trying to decide what he should do but his greed beckoned to him to not run away but to wait for the bank tellers to finish packing the money bags. However, it didn't do him much good as the police arrived on the scene just as he received the money bag from the teller and was only a few inches out the door. As he was being handcuffed, he left extremely ashamed at what he had done and he knew that his ignorance, covetousness and his pride all led to this foolish and his downfall. It then was blindingly clear that he should have lived right and been content with what things he had right from the beginning.
