The Break
“I was running like my life depended on it, I had to live, survive, get away, protect myself. No one and no thing would stand in my way.
I ran down the hill as fast as I could and stopped at the bottom, I was breathing heavily but still very active. I was looking over my shoulder, and around my surroundings constantly.
“
‘Shut up,’ I said to myself through weighted breathing.
‘Who even was that? I don’t even know what they looked like,’ I continued hurrying home, I was shaking and scared out of my mind. After a few more steps I started running again.
“
‘I’m in danger, I’m gonna get hur- shut up. Ugh! Who am I even talking to?’ My fear turning into more of an annoyed tone after finding out I was only talking to myself, but I couldn’t help but continue the conversation.
‘I don’t know, what are you on about,’ I said through laughter, my hands and body moving with my words as they bled out of my mouth unintentionally.
As I stumbled along I walked past…that…house. Again. The house where the car pulled up, the house where I felt like I died, the house that made my body feel like dead weight, and not only the house, but the car that pulled up too. My heart froze as my body struggled to move, my body moving in a more loose, sporadic way.
“I don’t know, do you know? I don’t know, do you know? I don’t know, do you know? I don’t know, do you know? I don’t know, do you know? I don’t know, do you know? I. Don’t know, do you know? I. Don’t. Know. Do you know? Do you know? I don’t know, do you know?”
My thoughts racing on anything, but why? I couldn’t not say it. I...
