🎁 GIFT🎁
( An old memoire of Corona times)
😔😔💔
On seeing Bunty's (driver) new green Kurta (Long lose Indian shirt), I was impressed. It looked good with light blue jeans. It was probably a designer kurta. I asked him- "Hey Bunty, very beautiful kurta, where did you buy it from?"

" Its a gift. My friend Rishu has given me this. His real name is Rohit."- Bunty said with excitement.

"Oh wow! You have got very good friends. I wish I had also such friends, then I would have also got designer kurtas as gifts."- I said jokingly. Bunty just gave a broad smile.

After two days, all of a sudden, very dense clouds gathered. Perhaps, due to early arrival of Monsoon. It kept pouring all day and night. The next day, though Sunday, but was also a very busy day. World Heritage Day was celebrated in Chamba. Heritage lovers took a walk around the monuments of Chamba city. Being associated with tourism sector, I also participated in this event.

I was exhausted, so I went straight to the bed as soon as I had my dinner. The next morning, while sipping tea and browsing local news on my mobile phone, a sad news caught my attention.

Last night, a car fell down into a deep gorge at a place called Utip and three young boys died on the spot . "Oh, my God! What is happening these days? Accidents every day.", I thought. Since I was getting late, so I hurriedly got ready, had breakfast and left home with my bag.

Meanwhile, the weather was cleared up. Bunty was waiting in the car on the main road. After getting in, while adjusting my mask, I once again noticed Bunty's new kurta. It was looking great!

In lighter vein, I said, "Hey Bunty, please introduce me to your friend. Perhaps, he will also become my friend and gift me a designer kurta."

Bunty remained silent. His eyes welled up. Then, with heavy heart, he said , "Sir, that will not be possible." "Why, why so, Bunty?", I asked inquisitively.

"Sir, yesterday while going home, my friend, Rishu took lift from someone. That fateful car fell down into deep gorge near Utip. He is no more!", Bunty informed with heavy heart and became silent. So did I! Utter Silence spread in the car. The morning news flashed before my eyes.

In this worldly hustle and bustle, we keep on planning so many things for life. We manage and manipulate things but life is so fragile and unpredictable!

After a short while, I broke silence and said, "Bunty, you must have received many gifts but you will never forget this gift till your last breath."

"Yes Sir, that is true!", staring straight at the road, Bunty said . I also focussed my eyes on the road.
