"Houston...We Have A Problem"
"Is there a doctor on board?"
The tannoy was loud and clear, many of the crew at the rear of the plane were caught unawares. Drey spilt coffee over his own shoe and Priyanka dropped three packets of salty nuts into the lap of a guy in seat 32b, he looked like a letch so she wasn't about to retrieve them.
"Could any medical practitioner please make themselves known to a member of our crew."
Drey ignored the splash and went to the rear to pick up the radio to his supervisor at the front. A heads-up might have been nice. His blue eyes looked like chipped ice and his frosty tone was delivered in a hushed voice.
"Hey Jay-Dee" (actually Jannine Delilah but he couldn't be bothered, and though she was a stickler for formality he thought he'd earned a little payback.)
"what gives? What's the emergency?"
She wasn't exactly forthcoming with him and replied curtly," Drey, have you got somebody for me or are you in one of your moods again?"
He bristled at that. "No, just wanna know what we're up against."
There was a long silence, a heavy sigh and then came the short reply. Drey went pale, for once he was lost for words. At six years as a flight attendant he considered himself well versed in a lot of airborne situations, but this scared the crap out of him.
"Okay," came his flat reply, that really sounded more like someone had let the air out of the tyres on his Mini Cooper pale blue hatchback.

It was a handsomely distracted strawberry blond that picked his way past the loo queue and Priyanka still guarding the trolley. She was glaring at some guy in 32b like she was at a gunfight daring him to draw.
"Ditch that trolley and come with me," he said grabbing her hand whilst she dragged the trolley towards where he was leading her. She looked startled but left the scene of the showdown echoing back...
"and you owe me for those peanuts! Christ on a fudge sundae for a luck break what are you on?" Priyanka could feel he was hurting her wrist. " Have you been at it in the galley again...you know we have to prepare the food trays in there..."
"No! And that was one time and it was an emergency, I told you that at the time." Drey pulled her into the tiny galley area where they'd barely enough room to squeeze a third ( though in training some had actually tried!). He drew the curtain across for privacy and the way was barred by the big silver beverage cart.

It wasn't long before those in the very back heard a muffled shriek and a
"oh hell no! " Before Priyanka was quickly silenced and the two rear cabin crew steadied each other's nerves. As they left the area five minutes later to check on the call signs in case someone was owning up to medical know-how, Drey turned discretely to his attractive Indian friend.
"Here, take one of these. No, maybe better have two." He passed her two little white pills in his well manicured hand.
"Will they calm me?"
"No they're tiktaks not drugs you idiot, but I find they're distracting. I think it's the mint in them, plus your breath always smells nice just in case."
He winked and she just raised her eyes to the ceiling. How could he be joking at a time like this? For once his frivolous nature wasn't going to make this situation go away. Just then 32b's light went on...
"Oh great, why me?" she complained to Drey, "can you get it he creeps me out. I keep feeling his eyes all over me, it's gross.
"He's not half bad, a little older than I go for but I'll take him you just go get the kit and check it's all there."
With that Drey went to the rescue and Priyanka went to the side of the plane where there was a designated staff only storage space.

"Oh it's you."
"Yes sir, sorry to disappoint but my colleague has other duties to attend to. How can I help you?"
"I'm a doctor."
Drey smiled and thought "of course you are" and how pissed Priyanka was going to be. 32b flashed some sort of credentials, but seriously Drey was too far gone to notice lost in those smoldering green eyes. Sure, the guy was in his thirties and kind of stuffy in his last year's fashion and old man's haircut. But nothing a little spruce up couldn't fix.
..."and I practice at that hospital in the Nephrology department."
"The what me?" Drey was completely dumbstruck. He had tingles up and down his spine as the man's deep tone washed over him.
"I said, I'm a doctor," 32b smiled this big beaming smile and it was like his whole face just lit up.
"Come with me please," he grabbed the man's wrist like he was prone to do, and whisked him back to the galley, pushed him in first and drew the curtain back behind them. The doctor looked more than a little unnerved, which spooked Drey as he figured a medical practitioner would be ready to handle just about any call to duty.

Priyanka saw the curtain drawn and could hear the voices so made straight for the galley.
"Look I'm not gonna lie to you, that's big and I'm not sure I can handle it," drifted this deep voice she knew wasn't Drey.
"Ermm hmmm hmmm." She fake coughed and knocked on the curtain which just so happened to be Drey's muscular back. "I told you, we're not having your old tricks..." but her voice faded when her eyes met 32b stood the other side of her co-worker. He looked a bit pale, and Drey had obviously spilled the beans.
"He's a doctor," Drey said matter of factly.
"He would be" Priyanka sounded resigned to the fact if 32b pulled this off then they'd all be in his debt. Her sense of regret already told her she was going to pay big time one way or another.
Then the passenger with his fine cheek bones and rugged good looks suddenly changed. It was as if he'd gone into "man-up" mode in front of her.
"Then let's just get this over with....take me to the emergency."

And with that, a small procession emerged from the galley in an orderly fashion. First strode the doctor looking casual but in his wake was Priyanka carrying the kit and Drey close behind her issuing little commands as they passed people's seat.
"Seat upright please Sir."
"Seat belt sign is on Madam please return to your seat."
"No electric devices unless on flight mode."
"Nice ass he must work out," whispered in Priyanka's ear. He couldn't see her face but he just knew she was smiling, I mean it was rude NOT to look, and who didn't want to snag a doctor right? Assuming they all lived through it....
