BLoG: Leaving the Linear Path of Employment for Freelance
I spent roughly 20 years in the corporate world before I left it in 2008 to pursue my own path at the tender age of 36. I had gotten an early start at 14 years old as an under aged grocery bagger and worked my way up through a variety of jobs attempting to find what made me happy. After working for some global brands and other national names I'd gotten tired of trying to climb the corporate ladder and all the politics that came with it. To say I have changed direction a few times is an under statement. But to no avail, I found no happiness in the corporate world, so I chose to explore other avenues, namely freelance.

My linear path had become obscure with my job hopping and my resume had become littered with a plethora of job experience. There was no longevity anywhere in my work history. Most of my jobs lasted a year. There were 1 or 2 that made it to 4 years, but that was the max! Longevity was out the window. But what I had done was collected a wide range of work experience. It seems I had set myself up for the next stage or chapter in life. It seems becoming a Freelancer was inevitable. It seems as if I was destined to work for myself and take my own fate/destiny by the hand. Long over, were the days of getting laid off for no good reason.

Now, that I employ myself as a Freelancer, I have found happiness in what I do. I help many people to build their dreams and businesses through Photography, Graphic Design, Logo Design, Marketing, Branding and Content Creation. It's what I LooVe to do. As a business, I provide the support these companies/entrepreneurs seek. Whether it's needing new headshots for their promotions, perhaps a logo to start their business or revving up their social media with dynamic graphics and content, we are always in production mode.

As for you out there still trying to climb the corporate ladder or find their way through the corporate atmosphere, there's nothing wrong with that! And I salute you for sticking to your guns. But if you are like me and did not find a place to call home in the corporate world there's no time like the present to jump ship and move in another direction. You have a choice and that choice is only yours to make.
Your happiness is up to you. Do whatever you have to do to find it. I did!
