The Wolfling (Edited Version)
Hi everyone! This is one of my first stories in Writco. I wrote it in July or August 2022. When I read it again, I decided I needed to change a few things. So this is the remake of “The Wolfling”! Remember, it’s one of my first stories, so it’s not very good. I just changed a few spelling mistakes. Enjoy reading this story!

‘Luna?’ she asked hesitantly.
I decided not to show myself. It already was terrible enough.
‘Luna?’ I heard again. ‘Please, Lune… this isn’t funny anymore.’
I didn’t answer. Of course I didn’t.
I’m a monster, I thought. I’ve always been a monster.
… Maybe we need to start this story a bit earlier, so you can understand.
It all started on a day three years ago. I was a cute, ten-years-old girl. After dinner, I decided to take a walk in the forest near my house.
I enjoyed the beautiful evening and the cute nature. The clouds disappeared and a big, white, full moon shined on the trees.
I just sat on a fallen tree, staring at the trees.
Then, suddenly I noticed something was growling behind me. I turned around and with a trembling voice, I said: ‘Wh- who’s there?’
I heard a loud growl and then something was jumping out of the bushes… it was large and grey… it came to me at high speed and hit me in the face.
I felt terrible pain… something warm dripped over my face… everything became blurry and the ground was coming to me…
The next moment, I lay on the ground and my attacker was gone. The pain was the most terrible thing I ever felt… I shivered and everything turned dark…
‘Luna?’
A voice reached my ear. It sounded familiar.
‘Luna… wake up. Please, wake up.’
I was dizzy and everything hurted. With much exertion, I opened my eyes. I saw my mother’s face staring at me. ‘Wh- what happened to me?’
‘You were attacked,’ my mother said. ‘The doctor says it might have been a wolf.’
Suddenly, I remembered what happened that evening– but was it still that evening?
‘How long have I been unconscious?’
My mother sighed sadly. ‘You stayed in the forest for too long, so we were trying to find to. Around midnight, we found you laying on the ground. It’s morning now.’
A cold hand catched my heart. ‘So I was laying here for at least nine hours…’
‘Thirty-four hours,’ she said. ‘You were unconscious for one whole day.’
It felt crazy.. a whole day was taken out of my life and I didn’t even know it…
I sat up and felt a terrible headache. Something seemed wrong with my vision. My mother looked at me with horror. ‘What’s the point?’ I asked. ‘I’m good, really.’
With shivering hands, my mother grabbed my hand and led me to the mirror.
Someone I didn’t know looked at me in the mirror. My black hair was covered in red and two awful looking scratches were on my face and over my left eye. That eye was pale blue, even the pupil, instead of the dark brown colour of my right eye. I suddenly realized that I was blind in one eye.
‘No,’ I whispered. But my face was so battered I couldn’t hold back the tears. ‘No. No! NO, NO, NO!’ I cried.
Everyone was quiet. It felt like the funeral of the earlier me.
One week later, the doctor asked me to speak in private. He hesitated, and then he said: ‘Well, Luna… I actually don’t think the wolf who bit you was just a normal wolf.’
‘What do you mean?’ I asked. ‘What else could it be?’
‘It was full moon that evening… right?’
I was afraid I already knew what was coming, but I hoped with my whole heart that I was wrong…
‘I think you’ll turn into a were–’
But then I ran away. I didn’t want to hear the truth. I didn’t want to be a monster.
A few minutes later, the doctor found me sobbing in a corner. He held my hand and said: ‘It’s not that bad. We can make a special room for you to lock you in every month… then you don’t have to be a monster.’
Everyone tried to make it better, but nothing could make me feel better. I only believed I was a nasty monster who deserved it to be finished. All the other stuff didn’t matter for me.
And then that day came.
My attack was a month ago and my injuries started to look a bit better. However, my face would never return to its original status.
My family and me sat at the table in the backyard and we were having dinner. It was a wonderful evening… well, at least, it seemed like a wonderful evening.
Then the full moon appeared and the table was covered in moonlight. When the light fell on me, I shivered and then I felt a huge pain inside myself. My skin felt like it was melting and seemed to change…
And then I felt an overwhelming urge to bite… to kill. My jaws started to move… I couldn’t control them…
The next moment I remember, I found myself in a locked room, trying to open the door by biting it. ‘What… what am I doing?’ I said.
The memories of last evening came back and I realized that I turned into a werewolf… it really happened…
I looked at my hands, but they were normal again. No fur, no claws. I was a girl again.
I was shocked ‘cause I didn’t remember anything about the situation. I could have bitten a little child… or my entire family!
I heard someone unlocking the door and one second later, I saw my mom. She looked upset.
‘You… you weren’t yourself last night,’ she said. ‘We finally caught you and moved you to the new full-moon room.’
Caught. She just said they caught me. Like a monster.
I felt down for a long time and one time, I tried to commit suicide. I attached a rope with a stone to my neck and jumped into a river. But my mother saved me. I felt like I didn’t deserve to live.
But after a long time, I felt better and finally I was like the old Luna again.
My transformations were terrible, but everthing was going fine… until I was...
