Is it witchcraft, or mental illness? Mental illness is real and we need to be taught more about it.
I grew up in a place where people are criticized and given names for things they do. Change in behavior, lifestyle, habits, etc. You will be walking alone on the street singing and praying, you crazy because you can’t be talking alone. Assumptions run in their mind quickly that you are mad for picking up papers because someone littered on the street. We have different beliefs that were instilled in us growing up. It got me to conclude that beliefs are limiting. And I wonder, could we be overlooking certain situations and challenges we facing by justifying everything to avoid reality? Are we more comfortable in deceiving ourselves by repeatedly telling a lie to sugarcoat the truth? Are we going to face the truth at some point to find ways of learning, understanding, healing, and being less judgmental? We need healing to mend our broken hearts to love more. Hence I mention healing.
We all have different beliefs, and I don’t want to sound like I am belittling any. I’m trying to speak my mind, and hopefully, it will help a few in approaching certain circumstances with an open mind. I want us to explore the possibility that certain people do stuff not with intend but because mentally challenged. Mental illness is serious, and so in people practicing magic (witchcraft). We have an evil spirit that possesses souls acting weird and say things that don’t make sense. Christians call it demons and exist. We have ancestors their ways of communicating and giving messages that are a bit intense and extreme when you avoid their calling. For instance: Some wake up in the middle of the night and start running, crying, screaming, even dancing as a sign that they need to initiate. We all practice different religions because we believe in a variety of things. I am merely highlighting that we have different views on things, practicing our culture, beliefs, customs, and values. All this does exist and is real, so is mental illness.
I want us to explore mental illness and apply certain situations in our lives that will make us rethink what we said about certain people that they may be sick mentally and need help. In writing this: I want to help us see and offer professional counsel to our partners, brothers, sisters, parents, and kids to help make this world safer before they do things that will harm the people next to them. Mental illness is a wide range of conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. It is associated with distress and problems functioning in social, work, or family activities. Most people get mentally sick caused by certain events that may trigger trauma in their lives and changes everything for them. Some inherit them from family members. While others it is caused by substance abuse like alcohol, drugs, and weed. Substance abuse leads to anxiety, depression, paranoia, personality disorder, and Schizophrenia. It has a tremendous effect on behavioral change, getting into fights, irritation, anger issues, attitude, agitation, lack of motivation, low performance at work, unusual hyperactivity, and accidents.
So much stuff happening in our lives that some we don’t look at them with clear consciousness. Because we learned some standards, we follow them to help us decide. Why do we always overlook people giving us red flags signaling mental illness with excuses like, he was drunk? He is crazy, we all know. He loses his temper sometimes, but he usually comes down. She has always been obsessed with things. I am not saying we should mind people’s business, but let’s open our eyes to behavioral changes in people close to us. Certain things don’t just change with no questions asked or reasons given for that change. We need to be mindful of those who change behavior to determine the kind of help they need. Let’s always listen by seeing and listening to those silent actions that change their lives.
There is so much to get into and learn about mental illness. Unfortunately, I can’t get into all of it in this blog. I will be writing serieses about mental illnesses to learn more about them and how to get help. Let’s research more to understand our loved ones and be knowledgeable in helping than passing judgment. I would love to hear about your experiences with mental illness or someone you know and how you overcame it. Mental illness is a state that people go through in that darkness, searching for a beam of light to give them hope and comfort in knowing they will fight it. I live you with this quote: ” I am for a while. I’ll talk more, laugh more. Sleep and eat normally. But then something happens like a switch turns off somewhere. And all I am left with is the darkness of my mind. But each time, it seems like I sink deeper and deeper. ” Unknown
