Biggar Waterfall
The Bigar waterfall from Caras-Severin county, it’s not only considered the most beautiful waterfall in Romania but also in whole the world, after the publications of the journalists from Huffington Post, where they said they were fascinated by this falling water also describing it as being one of the most beautiful and spectacular from the world.
This unique landscape is created by an underground spring which flows on a rock about 8 meters high, covered with moss.
This natural monument is part of Cheile Nerei-Beusnita National Park and from 2000 it has been declared a protected area of national interest, which corresponds to the category IV IUCB (n. r. International Union for Conservation of Nature).
Behind of this waterfall like any another natural monument in Romania, there is a legend and in this case is a one of love, between two young people. The girl is born in a peasant family, before her birth, the parents go to a whitch to ask to help them to have kids. She told them that if they will have a girl should not allow her to fall in love because she will found her death. This is how the girl was born, in time she fall in love with a young man named Birga. Upon hearing this, the girl’s father locked her in cave in the mountain to protect her from the curse. The witch fell sorry for the girl and decided to visit her, turning her hair into a waterfall. Young Bigar threw himself into the water, both of them dying. The two reunite into the other world, from where they can complete them love story. Another version of this legend say that the witch tell to the young couple that both should drink water from Bigar waterfall to break the curse.
