Let Love Win
#WritcoStoryPrompt8
The picture in the frame held a lot of memories. Some good, some sad. Her tired eyes roamed over it one last time before she tossed it in the fire. It was time to start afresh
*****
, there is a lot that holds her back now. She knew burning these memories would only dampen the pain lacing her heart and not erase it.
But, she can no longer hold on. She had to let go.
‘I have to let go.’ She thinks almost as a mantra to herself, pushing her stubbornness along.
She watches the edges of the large photo of her and her late husband begin to burn, darken and coil in on itself, disintegrating into ash.
She watches as her heart begins to crumble and shatter all over again as the blurry figure of what were once lovers, were now just memories.
Lyenna stands up as tears cascade mercilessly down her cheeks, her hands shake violently wanting to run into the fire and scramble what was left of the photograph. Which was nothing. Nothing but ash.
“Lyenna!” I hear distantly, Jackson lightly taps on the front door that I thought I had shut had somehow became ajar, leaving me open as anybody can apparently freely walk into my cabin.
Jackson Lettersdy is a man who has made me want to believe in life again, when I met him months ago, I was terrified and isolated.
Johnson my late husband was my life, he was the love of my life and I thought he would have been by my side for the rest of my life.
Today is our anniversary-would have been our tenth year anniversary, and instead I am celebrating Johnson’s afterlife. It’s been six years. Six years since he left my life, since he left a large hole in my spirit and nobody or nothing has been able to fill it.
At least, not until now.
Jackson Lettersdy has been the only one to make me smile and he still doesn’t even know what really happened to Johnson.
But I still remember that fateful horrible day, and I don’t know if giving me and Jackson a chance would be enough.
“Lyenna, I’m coming in! What are you doin-Are you okay?” Jackson’s deep voice echoes through the large room, evidently startling me out of my deep thoughts.
“This is the sixth year anniversary of my husb-Ex-husbands death.”
******
That was an excerpt from a book I was writing a year ago, but decided to discontinue it.
Lyenna had a husband until he died then spent five years writing in her journal about his death and on the eve of his sixth year being gone, Lyenna moves away and tries to heal from the pain of losing her husband. She meets hot YouTuber Jackson Lettersdy that makes her believe in life and love once again, but Lyenna struggles to think wholeheartedly that she deserves the second chance she had been given.
