Imagination
#WritcoStoryChallenge
The streetlights were dim as the mist enclosed it in its mysterious grip. She peered out of her window into the darkness, was there someone out there or was it her imagination, did she invented this vision? She felt confused and scatterbrained and a bit overwhelmed by feelings that she didn't have moments ago.
But then she remembered that her mind had several facets to create so much magic and splendour.
She was all alone and feeling very scared but, if the feeling of someone else being in her presence, was only in her mind.
Then she might be able to change the moment from scary to magical.
But then a figure started walking towards her, and she was frozen on the spot in shock.
And has the image became clearer, she recognised the face.
She tried to call out his name but her tongue was stuck in her throat.
David.....?? she mumbled, but it's impossible she thought!! David is dead.....she was at the funeral and the crematorium. How could any of this be possible???
A couple of months previous, Sarah's brother David was playing volleyball on the beach with his friends.
When his attention was drawned to a woman wearing a dressing gown and bed slippers walking out into the sea. She appeared to be sleep walking and unaware of what she was doing.
Without a second thought, David dived into the sea to rescue her.
The waves had dragged her very far into the water within seconds, and has David grabbed hold of her. She began to struggle, pulling him under with her.
The ocean was a dark abyss leading down to the depths of death.
David struggled to find her as the ocean swirled him around, his vision was masked by the gloomy depths of the sea.
Diving deeper into the abyss, he searched and searched until finally he caught a flicker of light. It was the white gown the woman was wearing. David torpedoed towards her. She appeared lifeless, her eyes were staring wildly at him. He wrapped his arms around her and headed upwards breaking through the face of the ocean. With her limp body draped around his back he was greeted by the beams of light. A winch rope was thrown down and David attached the harness to her waist. As he was about to attached the harness to his waist, a wave several storeys high crashed against him and he was plunged into the violent waves.
The icy water closed over his head, with the currents tugging at him. David tried desperately to swim against it, but it was pointless. He was struggling to breathe, and then everything went black, as he disappeared.
The fire services and police spent hours searching for David but he was nowhere to be found.
Several days later a body was found a few miles away from the beach. He was identified as David based on his dental records, as he was so badly decomposed.
David passing came as an unexpected shock to everyone who knew him. It was later confirmed that the woman he tried to rescue was in hopsital in intensive care. She was staying at a hotel near the beach and after another explosive argument with her partner, attempted to take her life.
Sarah and David were very close and so she didn't take his passing very well, in fact she was still grieving.
But how could it be possible that he was now standing in front of her.
And so Sarah asked herself, was it her old imagination working, a kind of make believe.
She's never seen a ghost, but she definitely believe that there's some sort of something spiritual out there, infact there had to be.
But as the image got closer, she suddenly felt very cold and in that moment she reached out to touch him but just like the day when he died.....he suddenly disappeared!!
And then Sarah realised that she was right, it was her imagination.
And that her belief was very powerful, If you have toxic emotions of fear, guilt and depression, it is because you have wrong thinking, and wrong thinking is due to wrong belief.
And she also realised that her imagination is a screen onto which spirits can 'project' images, temptations presented as stimulating entertainments, offering us pleasurable rewards if we give into the temptation.
And so she decided that this was her opportunity to say goodbye.
As she stared into the shadows, she felt a gush of wind, and she whispered.....Good bye, David.
And from that moment on, she found peace as well as closure, her imagination had helped her to let go and move on!!
