The Heavy Ring
I stared absently at Kai's ring finger as he drove me to work,I looked at his finger again to confirm he was not really wearing his ring.I sarcastically asked him which was his left hand and sure enough he didn't have the ring.I smiled sheepishly when he wanted to know why I was asking about his left hand and tried to stop the conversation.

Sometimes my mind shifted to the memory of Kai.Was he cheating on me, had he fallen out of love, did it slip and felt,Iwondered but I brushed all those thoughts away and concentrated with my work.

Every sunshine I would look at his finger to see if he had his ring for almost a year but he neither wore it nor did I see it in the house.I could check on his mail when he was not around, smell if he had different cologne in his clothes but sure enough there was no signs of cheating

Our five year wedding anniversary arrived and I had a chance to ask him about it.He just told me that it got lost and that was all.I twisted mine because it had stuck there for the last five years as if to remove it but respected the vows we made in the pulpit.

One day I was helping my best friend who had just relocated to a new apartment. We were unpacking her items silently when a ring flipped in the floor from the bag she was holding drawing my attention. We both went down to pick it up but I was the first to get it and look out of curiosity.

The ring had my husband's name and the day we got married.I walked silently without saying a word to my best friend. My heart was heavy and Kai's ring was even heavier to carry but I had to.It had all the answers I was looking for and he was cheating with my best friend.

As I packed my small luggage and left Kai's ring on the table, I knew he was going to be happy to have found his lost ring and lost his wife forever.
