The Stolen Curse
Detective Alex scanned the long room looking for any visible evidence like footprints, or belongings of the thieves but nothing was in sight. The morning rays touched the floor shining on the empty glass case.
“Do you know when this happened?” asked Detective Alex.
“I don’t know, I don’t remember hearing anything ”the security guard answered nervously. The detective’s eyebrows tensed as she heard those words. But she kept calm and asked another question.
“What were you doing the night before?” She questioned.
“I can’t remember!” The security guard looked terrified as he understood what happened to him during the theft.
Detective Alex dismissed the security guard and went to the museum's owner. The chilly morning air seeped through her magenta coat as she walked on the red epoxy coating with her steps being the only things that were heard in the dark silent room. As she walked past other artifacts she noticed a specific window with a torn black cloth wriggling on it.“What is this,”murmured the detective. Detective Alex took out a ziplock bag and carefully used her hands to take out the piece of cloth. She placed it in and closed the back making sure she heard every click of it. She put it in her pocket and continued walking.
“Welcome Ms.Alex” spoke the museum owner rather enthusiastically.Anyone with the right mind would have noticed and known something was wrong but somehow no one in the museum did. There were only four people including the guard in the museum and no one seemed like they cared about a twelve million dollar diamond being stolen. This raised suspicion to Detective Alex about the owner who still had a glimmer of happiness in his eyes even though he seemed like he was trying very hard to hide it. The owner's face finally seemed to calm down and his face frowned and his eyes danced around not once crossing paths with Detective Alex. Detective Alex sat down on the fine velvet couch and then took out a plastic file case and stared at Mr.Robert ,the owner. And started to speak “Mr.Robert, I would like to search every inch of the museum. Please close the museum for 3 days of the week until we can find the culprit.” The owner’s face turned away in horror at what he just heard. Probably something he should have not done but he did.
“ Mr.Robert, I am one of the best detectives and I solved more than forty cases in only two years of working! And this is a twelve million dollars diamond we’re talking about, this is not something we can just dismiss.” The Detective's voice roared with a fit of fiery anger in her eyes. She slammed the table with her right palm and sat back sighing. “I’m sorry Mr.Robert but this is a very big case and the stolen diamond is very expensive and well anything stolen from a very big and high-tech security museum like this is definitely concerning for the government. Alex’s forehead wrinkles with the tense of the room and the answer can affect the whole path the investigation is taking for the better or worse.
“Ms.Alex you are right I can’t stop you from doing your job so you have my permission to search and gather clues to solve this case,” spoke Mr.Robert with remorse. Detective Alex thanked the Owner and left the gloomy museum. Detective Alex’s boots left a mark behind on the snowy path as she walked to her gray Rolf 4 Toyota. The car door opened, welcoming the detective with a bright smile and a warm pumpkin spice latte. The Christmas bells rang and the chorus sang their jolly songs. People were busting out of stores carrying big bags filled with toys and clothes and Christmas decorations. 30 min passed as she finally reached her home. Alex undid her ponytail and long locks of black brown ombre hair which fell down to her shoulders and she changed into her candy cane PJs. She took out the evidence and stared, she started to scratch the cloth just a tiny bit but then there was a hole!
“Oh no, I ruined my only evidence” cried Alex but then stopped when she saw another thin layer on it. It was a pocket! She slowly opened it and found a card. The white card had a number on it and on the back embellished in her light blue walls and brown wood floors. She went into her bedroom and reached for the drawer which some idiot decided to put 6ft off the ground and expected everyone who rented this apartment to be able to reach it. Even thinking about it annoyed her, she was only 5’5. She finally got out her magnifying glass with a chair but still expected to reach it without it. She observed the black cloth hoping to find something on it that would lead her to the culprit or culprits. Observing it for more than 10 minutes Alex stood up getting something to eat and returned back with apple slices and sat back down still observing the black cloth with her deep brown eyes which were slowly closing as she tried to keep awake. She used her small, soft fingers to hold it up, still staring at it with hope. Alex started at the card and noticed the small, gold word,” Latina”. What is this, thought Alex. “Oh My God”! A part of the card was torn and inside was a whole circuit, a taser, and a tracker! Sweat was running down her face as she thought about the people who did this. They could not have been ordinary people who could have stolen from a high-ranked security system. The air froze around her and the cool air breeze coming in seemed colder the longer she stared at the tracker. Thoughts filled her head about the people who can find her and kill her or do anything! The hands of the clock hit 12 and Alex rushed to get her coat and her car keys and drove to the police station to Micheal, her coworker. A blanket of snow covered the roads, stores glimmered with light and bells rang in harmony and the Christmas spirit was high in the air. Alex has finally reached the police station which only had two other people left, Micheal and the security guard. She rushed inside and gave this to Micheal and sighed.
“Micheal this card has a tracker implanted in it and it is possibly from the people who stole the diamond from the museum,” spoke Alex in a calm manner instead of freaking out.
“Ok I will try to track them from this and you focus on finding more clues and solving this case,” Micheal said glaring at the card.
The Next Day
Alex stood outside waiting for the 7 ft brown doors to open. She had woken up to loud rings of the alarm which she would have slammed to the ground if she hadn’t noticed how late she was( 30 min) and she only had 10 min to get ready but she zoomed past everything and still managed to get there on time but it looks like she wasn’t the one who was late.
“Oh my I’m so sorry,” yelled an old man wearing a worn-out light blue button-up shirt and light blue pants from a distance. He rushed towards the door and pulled out a big key which opened the door. Detective Alex stepped inside to the big halls with lion statues and posters of their new discovery and golden horse statue. The posters played on the tan walls and the long rooms made echoes with every sound they made. Rooms filled with artifacts varying from scripts to statues and gizmos from the past. She walked into the Egyptian hall. The Egyptian hall. It was long with brick tan walls to fit into the theme. A coffin with strange symbols stood aside at the middle wall in the middle where everyone could see. Pictures of pyramids and their life stood at each side of the room. It was bright and sunny with many facts and pottery made from the past standing on a white marble rectangle. Detective Alex stood in front of the broken wall. It had a big gap in the shape of a circle and parts of it were falling off.
“You should fix this soon, it looks like this will fall off any second,” ordered Detective Alex.
“Yes we should,” replied the old man.
He would like this so . . . .
What! Thought Detective Alex. She definitely knew she heard the old man say this and for a detective like her, this was either a clue or red herring.
Scanning the Egyptian hall for over 40 min Detective Alex definitely knew there was nothing there. It was just an opening for the thieves. Now to the diamond hall. Walking to the hall Alex saw many interesting things on the side of her and in front of her. Being a curious detective, Alex wondered many things, like how much did the big red carpets with many details cost and how heavy were they. The carpets were detailed with swirls and lines and flowers and lighting and squares and squiggles of every pattern. This was useless for a detective but she wondered about them anyway walking on the red carpets for over twenty minutes. She was bored. Last time they just got the case to her but now she has to walk there. She seemed like a little kid wondering when they would reach the beach. But she wasn't whining, she was an adult so she acted like one, well at least on the outside. With left and right turns they finally reached the hall with the stolen diamond, Getting closer and closer Alex felt something. It was grief and sorrow and also some sort of barrier which was weak but she still felt it. What was that? Thought Alex. The dark blue walls surrounded the glass case which the blue diamond should have been. It was empty, not a single writing or fact about was next to the case. It was just there sitting alone in the darkness.
“Save me from these people!” A voice wailed in Alex’s head.
“Do you hear that?” asked Alex with a tensed face.
Those words echoed in her head over and over again. The sadness consumed Alex deep within as she kept hearing these words, words that she hoped she would never hear again. Images popped up in her head, a blue diamond shined in the darkness and kept weeping. Alex didn’t know how long but she could feel its sorrow and grief, and she could feel the cold rigid walls as the diamond wandered around tumbling from one side to the other while something kept shaking the box it was in. Diamonds don’t have feelings and everyone knew that but this one did.
