Forced marriage can contribute to girls cycled to powerlessness. They are mostly likely to be mistreated and abused. It denies them their right to vital decisions for themselves. Forced marriage is an abuse of human rights and any one under the age of 18 is a form of child abuse.
We need to educate communities and parents on the rights to individual choices and independence. People are forced into marriage to preserve family wealth or reputation. For poor families, marrying their daughter to a man who is better off is a previledge and opportunity to change their status of living.
Emma was forced into marriage where she had to constantly endure abuse and compromise with her husband's attitude. Would she be able to endure till the end?.
