Whose Life is this Anyways Ch.4
"Robin? Can I make a call in your office, please?"
Robin is my therapist and the group facilitator. She has light brown shoulder length hair and has a resting bitch face, but she is a sweetheart. At first glance you probably think you wouldn't want to tell your story to this woman, but she has a way of making people open up. You don't even realize it's happened until you're sobbing uncontrollably and you've spilled half your life story to the woman.
She is a very good listener. Even better at making you feel like you actually matter. I couldn't have asked for a better therapist.
Robin herself is in recovery, so she knows when you're feeding her bullshit. I mean, you can't bullshit a bullshitter! She has no problem calling you on your shit either and that too makes her the right person for this job.
Especially with me. I don't take kindly to assholes with degrees who never had to wonder where the next meal was coming from. The assholes who's only addiction was television and making sure everyone knew they were better than you. Fuck those creeps. Don't tell me not to get high if you haven't even smoked a fucking joint!
Robin looked at me with her deep blue eyes, concern written in them, "Everything o.k. Shawn?"
"Yeah, why you asking me like that?" I replied.
Robin gave me a sarcastic smirk before answering me.
" Well, Shawn; honestly I'm a little worried. Last time you were here you didn't last long, and honestly I'm just worried that you may decide to leave us early once again."
I smiled, then replied, " Oh? Did I forget to say goodbye to you or something , Robin? Dont worry, if I choose to leave, I'll make sure you're the first to know about it this time, ok? I promise. But no; Robin, I am fine, I just need to check on my mom is all."
" Really funny shawn," she smiled and said, " I'll make a deal with you. I'll let you make a call after I get a good session of listening to you tell me more about yourself one on one. Do we have a deal?"
" Robin, I..."
""Shawn, I think I've heard more than I've ever heard from you in a group and I don't want to lose a good opportunity to make some serious progress in your recovery. So what do you say? Shall we head to my office?"
" You drive a hard bargain, but you better not try and push any drugs on me, I can't promise you I won't take them!"
" Always a wise ass, Shawn? Or just an ass?" she quipped back.
" I'll go with the latter. You've got a deal. Let's go have a chat shall we?"
