Rapunzel Of The Sea #1

"What've we got here?" 5 snatched the book from my lap and flipped through the pages, grinning in amusement. "Oh, you draw?"

I stared down at my crossed legs, folded in the sand of the coast.

"Won't answer?"

I squinted at the waters, catching a glance of a pair of eyes looking up at me from within it.

"You ignoring me?!"

"Tim, keep your voice down. You'll make them beat us." 29 warned from a few metres away.

He scoffed and, "Well then," like the baseball pitcher he used to be, he threw my book into the water. I watched it soar, the pages flapping in the air, and with a soft splash, it hit the water. "Since you don't seem to value it much."

My lack of reaction made him scowl and walk away.

After they left to their cabins, I held in a deep breath and jumped into the water, but a big tide pushed me back to the shore, and a pair of hands rose from the water, holding up my book.

And as eerie as it may sound, those hands were water. Those were water hands holding up my book.

The body that joined the hands after would've made me fall unto my butt if I wasn't already sitting on it.

It was a body alright, a body of water. Only, the water didn't quite detach from the body. I could still see the current flowing and tiny fishes swimming within it. It formed a pair of arms to join the hands, then shoulders, then a neck, then a head with cascading 'hair' that fell back into the water, running down his back.

His?

How exactly could I know if this water person was a boy?

Colourless liquid lips quirked up in a small smile, emphasizing the second word. "I am a boy."

He could read my mind? Was I dreaming? Or had I finally lost it after years of child abuse?

"You're a... water... person."

"Yeah, I noticed," he said, and the words were laced with enchanting ripples that made it feel like little giggles.

I watched keenly as he laid the soaked book gently on the sand. His hand hovered over it and he hummed, then slowly the water from the book joined him somehow.

I tentatively inched closer and touched a page, gasping when I found it wasn't wet, I took it and hugged it close. "Thank you. "

"You're welcome, Dante. "
