Chapter 5
Robin Cook arrived home with the briefcase and puts the diary on the study table. His inky black eyes are curious as he opens the old tattered pages. The diary is only scribbled at some pages , others all are empty. There are details of distance travelled , food and beverages consumed, some names but nothing important so far. The pencil scribbled mark was the only thing that caught his interest . The strange wording that he couldn't make any sense. 'What else was there .. a skeleton with a knife, a strange key without a lock, a diary, a pocket watch . ' he started listing in his mind. Maybe they indicate something. His eyes were dazed and confused. He paced back and forth in his room. He has to legally take them into possession and order investigation right away. He put on his coat and went out with the black diary.
At the customs office ...
Johnny switched in the torch in the dark corridor and keyed in the password.This was given to him by Big Boss. His Boss was quite strange, he thought. When he told him that there might be something on that old ship, he instructed to leave it alone for a while. He scratched his head in confusion about the new order I.e. to bring the pocket watch. He cannot question him. He has to do as told. He entered the office, opened the confidential box and pocketed the watch . He thought where to put it. He emptied some of the things in his overcoat. He made some space between the wine bottle and the firecrackers and put in the inner pocket. In his hurry he forgot something.
Johnny went out of the customs office . Due to the heavy fog he couldn't notice Robin who just passed across him. Robin also didn't notice the person across him as he was too busy thinking.
Robin went straight to his office. He keyed in the password and switched on the corridor lights. The CCTV camera that was in the lampshade hung above. Others couldn't see it was even there because it was plain hidden. He placed the diary back in the box and went out, switched off the lights in a hurry. When he reached the gate he went back to check whether he had properly closed the office door. After seeing its fine he went home.
Johnny went straight to Beverly Tower. it was being constructed. The foundation was build , but the bricks and logs were still there. He went in the building. The smell of bricks and plaster was everywhere. He went to the innermost part of the building. There was an opening at the end. The temporary door was installed and upon it a mirror was put which felt like there was another building being constructed. He opened the mirror door and went down the staircase. It led to an underground parking currently empty being converted to a study room. There were sofas and some chairs . The black bodyguard were guarding at a distance and in the middle of the sofa sat a bearded man . He was in his mid 50s and having a tanned face with rimless glasses and slick grey hair. He was reading a The Times Magazine. Upon hearing the footsteps he looked up for a few seconds and then resumed reading.
"Big Boss, I brought the watch. " Johnny reported. His head was glued at the floor as he politely handed the bronze pocket watch . The man then put away his magazine and examined the watch. Its bronze exterior, bluey interior and its silver coloured hands that stopped at 1.30.
"About the ship , what did you find ?" he asked. His voice was a deep rumble, cracked but cold.
" The inner room has the hollow recess . I think if you pry on it , maybe it will . " But then he stopped and asked again.
"Sir, I have a question . " his eyes were still on the floor.
"yes go ahead. " Big Boss replied.
"Sir why did you ask me to steal the pocket watch ? Robin Cook will be alerted if he find s out. "
He looked at Johnny and tilted his head. His lips were in straight line. After a pause he asked. "Are you questioning me ? "
Johnny who was expecting an answer looked down to the floor hurriedly and replied."No Sir, I wouldn't dare. I will go back. " And he left the place.
After a while Big Boss spoke as if answering Johnny's question. "I made you steal to make trouble for the custom customs officer Robin Cook.
