Conflagration - Part 4
"It's expected to break through the atmosphere in eighteen hours. Expected landfall within The Hearth.", the man said staring at a computer monitor. Zoba's expression turned briefly to a frown.
"What's the casualty estimate?", Zoba inquired. The military man looks at another screen to his right.
"Forty thousand civilians - five thousand OGSR soldiers and dozens of Eidens.", he replied after a few seconds.
"Stone Master, we have an alternate course making landfall near The Flower Bay.", another military looking man standing in the back of the room adds. Zoba shakes his head slightly causing the pustules on his forehead to quiver.
"Not good. What is the casualty estimate for a direct hit on the city?", Zoba asks leaning toward the large table in front of him.
"Not good at all, sir. Flov Bia has a population of two hundred fifty thousand in the city proper. Tens of thousands more in the metro.", the man in the back says.
"Evacuate Flov Bia. Contact The Counsel on Galgus. Tell them we need ships and an escort.", Zoba says breathing a heavy sigh. Elder Valcor stands and begins to speak, "Men and women, we will split into emergency groups and meet at our designated muster points across the city. This will be intense but as long as we work toward our common goal we can expect an expedient evacuation.", he paused for a second and gazed adoringly at the crowd of Eidens in the room. The large wooden doors of the conference room slam closed turning every head in the room toward the noise. Before them was Darrius, wounds not yet fully healed, holding his bandaged ribs with one arm.
" Stone Master, there were dragons.", Darrius says as he leans over an empty chair clearly in pain. "In The Frost Jungle... there were dragons.", he continued barely getting the words past his lips. A poisonous silence fell over the room.
"There are no dragons on Sorendal! This is a serious matter, Mister Kalaedia!", Elder Junst's hissing voice boomed. Loud whispering could be heard throughout.
"I am serious!", Darrius raised his voice to The Elder without a second thought.
"Insubordination...", Junst began before being cut off by The Stone Master.
"Can you describe them, Darrius?", Zoba inquired. Zoba had heard rumors for years of dragon exiles living on Sorendal. Darrius' self-assuredness piqued Zoba's curiosity.
"I was in and out, Stone Master, but I know they were there. Lana wouldn't lie to me.", Darrius replied looking up at Zoba from his agony.
"Elder Valcor, you can handle the evacuation. I have another matter to attend to.", Zoba ordered before hopping to the floor and walking to Darrius.
