Writing Hacked 10
Disclaimer: PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE PROCEEDING FURTHER!

I have no formal education in creative writing or literature whatsoever. I learned everything by myself through youtube, reading, research, understanding, and writing away as much as I can. I make a lot of mistakes whether it be grammatical or any other kind. I hope you can point them out and help me correct it so I can learn more. I will try my best to provide you errorless guidance though. I am not going to pretend to know everything because I really don't. I have a lot to discover yet.
Whatever I am going to tell you here is through my own understanding and experience.
Enjoy.

🔶6) Home, Living Circumstances

Yet another point to consider while writing a character is where do they live because it indicates their financial situation as well as a neighborhood which greatly influences there character and behavior.
Do they live in a mansion, a small hut, or a brick house?
Do they have siblings? How many? Do they live in a joint family or alone?
All these things should be clear to the writer while writing the story.

🌸Tip- You don't have to add each and every detail. Just a slight explanation is enough sometimes. Although, I would recommend explaining the frequently mentioned areas of the house if they are relevant to the story.🌸

↪Example-

A) Maya's house was analyzed by Detective Davis at first glance and he formed the idea of how their living circumstances must be. It's important to piece of description and you should check it out in Garden of Spiders 1 which pin in the story section.

B) in Harry Potter, Ron Weasley's house was described in a very clever and detailed way because the writer knew that this place was going to be used again and again.
The Weasley family was big and how they all lived together depicted the closeness and homely affection that Harry craved and later became a part of. Later, the dorm rooms were given a small explanation because the significant things didn't happen in the dorms of the Hogwarts.
On the other hand, Hermione's house wasn't mentioned at all even though she was the main character because it was insignificant to the sorry.

🌸Tip- Feed only relevant and significant information to the readers. You should know the important things at the beginning only. That is having knowledge of the plot gives a lot of advantages. You can plan as you go too. As I have said earlier, there are no rules to writing.🌸

3) Mahishmati kingdom of Bahubali movie was given a very significant amount of screen time because it was created with so much detail that just a glimpse of it wasn't enough. Many important scenes took place there and it was needed to show the viewers where things were.

🔶7)Backstory/ Past

This will be part of a character's life and how the past has molded their personalities speaks a lot about their attitude.
You don't have to reveal their past soon, on the other hand, writers use the glimpses from past till the very end of the story. They just show it and leave it for the readers to judge.
The past and backstory are used as a mystery and suspense as to how the characters are the way they are.
If they are rude, why?
If they have trust issues, why?
Why are the happy/sad/ unsatisfied all the time?
Most of it is rooted in their childhood.
Many strong motives that drive the story further are from the past.
Maybe the person had a really bad heartbreak and they can't trust anyone again. But now someone genuine is in love with them and is willing to do anything for them. Will they resolve their internal conflict and be able to trust this new person again? It all lies in the past.

So think very carefully.

All the examples above have their story derived from the past.
The actions in the backstory/past have led them to this stage whether they were involved or not.
Writing a past is a story within itself. You should know the detailed past of your protagonist and antagonist at the least. Without it, the plot might sound foolish.

🔶8) Random things in the bag

By this, I mean that most of the characters may carry something with them all the time.
It may be a lighter, literally a bag, maybe a weapon like a sword, a wand, could be something as simple as chewing gums, books, a ring, etc.
The point is, even small things can contribute to a huge character attribute.
Maybe, the new friend carries painkillers with her all the time which might seem weird at first but later it is revealed that she faces domestic abuse on a daily basis. You see how a minor detail could lead up to something big.

↪Example-

A) Christina was a policewoman so she always carried a gun which meant her chances of defense were higher than many common people. She could save many lives if she could use it correctly. The gun later saved her life too.

B) Harry always carried his wand and glasses with him. Without those, he, undoubtedly, felt powerless. His wand was everything to him up until he realized the true power was his confidence without it.

C) Bahubali's sword was infamous in Mahishmati. Everybody knew nobody could touch it. It was very dear to him.

So there you go. These are the basic 8 traits to have in characters to add more personality to them.
It brings them to life and we begin to see characters not just as a tool but a person who is living in our world.

In future posts, we will learn about types of character in depth and I will give you various tips to assemble the plot writing and character writing together to write a good story.

I hope you understood everything clearly 🙏 Thank you.
