Hybrid bloodlines ( CH. 3)
(Two years later)

Kiyomi laughs softly, leaning her back deeper into the sofa cushion while sitting criss-cross. Her forest, green eyes lock onto the comedy show playing loudly on the TV screen. She tilts her head to the side like a child as she chuckles to herself.
Suddenly, a loud banging sound goes off, making her jump. She reaches to her left and grabs the remote hidden behind the chair arm. She looks toward the front door as her adopted brother makes his way into the living room.
"Everything alright?" She asks, concern lingering in her voice. Grayson nods his head in response and takes a seat beside her. He takes in a breath, taking off his cap and running his fingers through his black hair.
"Yeah, nothing like the heat and getting that ruined van running," she raises an eyebrow.
"You got it working?" She exclaims and jumps off the sofa in excitement.
"Kiyomi, don't get too hyper," she playfully sticks her tongue out at him, before speeding through the opened front door and into the front yard.

Kiyomi covers her eyes with her right hand as sunlight hits her frame. She blinks, her eye sight adjusting to the bright environment. She races up to a rusty van parked sideways in the driveway. She gasps in joy while Grayson quickly catches up to her.
"Well, what do you think? It's not much, but it's all I could afford," he asks, fishing out car keys from his jean's pocket. She twirls around and throws her arms around his waist.
"I love it," she squeaks loudly in happiness. She lifts up her chin, stepping back. Her pupils automatically locked onto a pair of shiny keys glinting in the light. She reaches up and tries to take them, but he holds it just out of her grip.
"I'm driving," he states, stepping around her and opening the driver's side door. She pouts, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Fine," she mumbles in annoyance while making her way to the passenger side door and opening it. She climbs into the vehicle as he puts the keys in the ignition.
"So, what's your plan?" She questions, slamming the door shut and buckling her seatbelt.
"Since we came back home, I thought we would go out and celebrate at your favorite restaurant," he responds as the engine comes to life with a loud roar.

Kiyomi hums silently to herself, her face following the trees zooming by as the vehicle makes its way down a crowded highway. She props her elbow on the window pane while frowning at the floorboards. Grayson turns the dial connected to the radio, turning down the volume. He sighs while looking at her tired frame out of the corner of his eye.
"How are you holding up? I know there's been a lot going on in your head ever since we left two years ago," he says and gently turns the steering wheel to the right. She shrugs her shoulders and roughly rubs her eyes with the back of her hand.
"I wanna see Tyler. We've been texting and video chatting forever. It's just not good enough, anymore. I wanna...no...I need to be held in his arms and be able to actually make contact with him,"---she sits upright while turning to face her adopted sibling.
"You do understand what I mean, right?" She whispers, tears building up in her eyes. He nods his head in response as he heads for an intersection.
"Yeah," a soft smile pulls at the corner of her lips and her attention switches to a billboard in the distance. Fear immediately pumps into her heartbeat, confusion circulating through her veins.
"We're heading away from town. Where are we going? What are you doing, Grayson?" She demands and curls her fingers into fists.

Grayson sighs while cutting off on a dirt path and pressing his foot on the gas pedal.
"We're moving somewhere else. A place that's safe for you and me. It's an isolated town under the name of Winter-gate. It's cut off from the humans and it's a safe haven for mythical creatures. They live out their lives and learn how to become a proper citizen there," he explains, taking a right turn and driving up a hill. Kiyomi's body immediately starts shaking violently as her nails cut into scabs engraved along her palms.
"But...I'm...normal. I'm not like you and Tyler. I'm a human, aren't I?" Tears roll down her face, mixed emotions flashing in her pained expression.
"I'm sorry, sis. You're not a human. You're something else entirely. Just not a werewolf, my dad told me all about it," he replies and shifts the van in park. She grabs his arm, roughly tugging at his sleeve.
"What do you mean? Tell me, what's going to happen to me. If you're taking me to a safe haven then that means I'll change to whatever I was meant to be soon, right?" She stares into his eyes while carefully watching the iron gate blocking their path. He nods his head in response as two officers dressed in black make their way to each side of the vehicle.

One of the men taps the window as Kiyomi pulls her legs against her stomach and turns her back on her adopted sibling. Grayson rolls down the window while picking up two files from the dash. He hands them to the other man through the window gap and fishes out four hundred dollars from his jacket.
"Go open the gate, Maxwell," the officer announces, glancing at the files. The second man quickly makes his way to a small structure on the right side of the gate. He steps into the building, pressing a red button on a control panel. Grayson rolls up the window as he turns to face the wheel. His fingers wrap around the circular contraption, the gates peeling back slowly. She moves her bangs in front of her vision and presses her side into the leather seat. She hugs herself, the vehicle driving straight into her new prison.
