"WE THE PEOPLE":- Let's deconstruct it
History teaches us the present. Sometimes it becomes arduous calling on our part to deconstruct all those events which have happened someday in the annals of the history. History which belongs to each one of us irrespective of our moorings. Sometimes it seems that this very historical process is a revolving geography. But that will not be more to say: this very geographical expression is what becomes our history and makes each one of us its high spirited distillers.
Asia which is known for its rivers received free expression of one of its nations from embankments of its cradle.
Decades back, on the 26th day of November 1930, the first PM of Bharat, Shri pt. Jawaharlal Nehru with his few INC comrades declared our historical expression of complete independence as a Congress man on the banks of river Ravi.
This communication of Pt. Nehru to our geography with the time found its manifestation on the 26th day of January 1950.
At the first hour of 15 August, 1947, pt. Nehru declared our tryst with destiny yet there was something that remains in the hat of the magician.
This hidden aspect makes me remember what Mahatma Gandhi said in early 1922: Swaraj will not be a free gift of the British Parliament; it will be a declaration of India's full self-expression.
On the day of commencement of our constitution what we get is: our tryst with expression, manifestation of national calling, and the trinity of sacrifice, true faith & growth and auspiciousness of the land in the form of three vibrant colours.
Now, a very penetrative inquiry to ask: what is that which gives teeth to these above mentioned philosophies .
Here comes the spirit of social contract.
As our preamble reflects or begins with - " we the people" of India.
Through these words Nehruvian destiny and Gandhian solidarity find their expression in the voice of the people of this nation.
On 22nd January social media saw many saviours of secularism posting the preamble of our constitution.
So, here arises a discussion that are we inching away from our declaration what we have made on the day of commencement(26jan1950).
In my opinion, obviously not, rather we are making them more realised. This realisation is not perceptible to some since not starking enough to be visible.
For instance:- Black dots on white paper are more visible than black dots on the paper heterogeneous in colour.
On this day of 26th January @2024 there is a need to deconstruct this phrase. This deconstruction requires to see it through the Indian lens which is framed in the spectaculars of cultural, spiritual and diversity( that is unity).
We need to educate ourselves not to read any phenomenon wearing western binoculars.
Bharat is here so see it while inside not from standing out there in isolation of individuality.
That is the case with Bharat, our national expression is not geography as the European body of theories and thoughts define itself in particular bounded geographical constituencies.
We call our nation , subcontinent, who came here and became us. This coming and becoming of us has coloured this landmass with multiple hues. These shades are so intermingled to see them separately , that's why we say: " unity in diversity".
This Bharatiyata ( we are not believers of ISMs) teaches us to perceive one thing in inclusion of another and finally water down the feeling of them vs us.
So, every single word of preamble needs to be read with the phrase " We The People" in a broader sense which really makes sense not through crude western philosophies.
Because it's society(admixture) which shapes the polity to a great extent. So there is no universally accepted principle which can communicate effectively in every human geography.
Finally I would say that this is our expression and faith in our consciously created constitutional institutions and incessant calling for enjoyment of diversity defines our realisation of "Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat".
As Majrooh Sultanpuri says:-
"मैं अकेला ही चला था जानिब-ए-मंज़िल मगर
लोग साथ आते गए और कारवाँ बनता गया"
