A Lover's Story
The beach in Far Rockaway, that is where we spent most of our best times. Holding hands as we walked along the boardwalk. Watching others enjoy the summer as they took a dip in the cool sea water. Swimming and, playing in the water that would cool them off from that hot summer day. That was for them. But for us, myself, and my Lisa, it didn't seem quite clean enough. Especially coming from where we were from. Where the water was as blue as heaven's sky, and you could see your feet, and the beach sand when you would look down. That's how it is in the Carribean. Everyday you can go out, and find people on the beaches, down by the seashore. Whether they are fishing, sailing, swimming, or just relaxing on the shore.
Anyway this day was our day. It was Saturday. We were both off from work, and it was ours for the entire time. We started it off this morning, "Good morning sweetheart." were her first words to me as I gazed at her. I couldn't believe how beautiful she was, or that I was so fortunate to have someone like her by my side. We met in high school, so we were literally high school sweethearts, and I couldn't remember a day without her by my side. My reply to her was only that she made my day worth waking up to. She was my dream come true, my one in a million, the one who made my heart leap for joy whenever she was around, and my soul so empty when we were apart.
Now here we are, thousands of miles apart, and I still do not know what separated us. My Lisa, and I. The love I thought would grow, and keep us together. The woman I thought would one day be my wife, and the mother of my children. The woman I could not see myself without, is now brightening someone else's life. That love has somehow faded away with those summer days, and moonlit nights. But there is still a flicker in my soul whenever I think of her.
