Near the Water pt. 1

Walking home through a dark Alley seemed like some common thing even though every once in a while someone would disappear. It seemed to be foggy but everyone knows it's just smoke and ashes from the piles of burning dead bodies outside the barrier. Their odor was at times overwhelming and yet at the same time confusing, relieving and reminding everyone of the rotted flesh, tuna fish, and even the hint of skunk smell we might not understand one day. Walking past the red flagged store named after its color when we first found it, now that it's open for us we always close at 9 pm every night leaving the spooky sight when the search light would shine partly on it. As I walked further away from the store I noticed there were more chains placed around the door than normal. My heart began to quicken as I started to grip the handle of my gun while it lay resting on my right hip.... I took a deep breath before convincing myself to continue home. Just two more steps and bang I was home; unhinging 2 boards, 3 chains, and 1 lock before heading down to the basement of a dead rich man's house I now call home. The lights no longer work so I replaced them with candles, some scented with pine or oak but most of them were plain. I walked down a few steps then shut the rusted metal door I use to keep me in and the "things" out there; after shutting it I rehain the inside, clip 4 of 7 locks, and prop up 2 metal poles on both sides of the door.. When I was done, I lit a few candles down the walk way, and payed down on the half ripped foam mattress I found inside the old house I'm now living under, time passed as I dozed off surprisingly, clinging onto the teddy bear my mother gave me 3 years ago on my 14th birthday before the "things" that now haunt the world took her and ripped her into shreds right in front of me....
