Luca's Love
Lucca's Love

It’s hard to begin a story when there is still yet to be a destined end and happily ever after.

T.S Elliot quotes “The end is where we start from." There used to be a once upon a time before Lucas, Danny, and Brian, when it only used to be Marina and Breccia who were best friends. They not only had a lot of things in common, but it had to also be due to genetics. Breccia looked at her mother to be an idol. She always admired her stunning looks of long angel thin blonde strands, and hazel green eyes.

Those looks could be a heart break for anyone. It wasn’t until after her divorce and finding out the news of her daughter when she decided to let her heart fall in love. Growing up she always noticed her mother came off as an independent woman who stayed in control with her life, and Breccia planned to be just like her when finally reaching that point in time. When that time came though, everything changed. Instead of doing what she could to be just like her, she had to do everything in her power to go against her. As she got older she saw her true colors. Deviance and deception took over; especially against her own daughter. Marina promised to always be there for her daughter, except when she learned that her teenage little girl (in her eyes) chose to become a parent at a young age.

Most pregnant females who expect their first child consider pregnancy to be an impatient waiting game of unpleasant pain. Of course it’s all worth it though just to see the most precious blessing of any mother’s own creation. The hospital room was cold but Breccia’s body felt hot and sweaty, and her brown curls swung all around her face after the delivery. It’s a miracle she didn’t scare the poor little guy right on the spot. Her blessing arrived on March 18th, 2011 at 5:31p.m. He weighed 5lbs, 12 oz., and 19 ½ inches long. He was her first child, her pride and joy, and her Lucas James. She remembered about a week before going into the delivery room, she and Marina went out to lunch for a serious conversation. Marina truly expressed her feelings of not wanting to be considered a grandmother at as young age, even though she was classified as a ‘teen mom’ once before in her time.

Breccia made a vow to her mother that day across the table at the Italian restaurant, just as she reminded herself right there in the recovering room to be the best parent that she could be. She knew she had to step up to the plate and do what’s right for that little boy, as no child ever asks to be born.

All good stories have to have a good love twist and a conflict. Breccia looked for an apartment and ended up finding true love along the way of a man named Danny who made not only her, but her son’s heart melt. Danny came into the picture when Lucas was only two and a half months old and stayed around ever since to help Breccia’s dream come true of being the best parent, and having the perfect family. Lucas gets confused when learning the roles of the true identities around him, but that’s only because his grandmother claimed he had too much of an attachment with her, and waited practically three years before finally coming around to her senses. It’s sad to say that Breccia’s Great grandmother pretty much raised her grandmother, who took over the role of her daughter, and now it fell to the generation of Lucas.

Now just to point out that Breccia might have been young, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t capable of taking care of such major responsibilities. She and Lucas didn’t have a stable roof over their head, and she knew she had to do what was right a mother, so her baby wouldn’t be taken through Child Care Services for neglect. She sat her mother down and explained to her that she needed her to look after her grandchild, despite the circumstances of whether she liked it or not, until an apartment was found for the two of them. Marina agreed that it was the best circumstance and they even went to make it legal in writing. It broke Breccia’s heart to not be able to tuck her son every night, or be the first person he saw when he woke up in the morning, but it had to be done. During the six months of searching and organizing everything in her life for Lucas, Marina grew such a strong bond with her grandchild; a bond stronger than Breccia never would have imagined possible, that she ever thought she could handle. Breccia became head of household in her own apartment just one week after Lucas turned one.

It wasn’t that big and luxurious, but only a one bedroom. However for her first official place, she considered it a paradise for me and my little one. Unfortunately  despite what the written and verbal agreement was, Marina refused to give him back to her, and preferred her daughter got more of a head on her shoulders by going to college. She  felt she was unreasonable and taking things overboard with letting her raise her son, but with her being the mother and grandmother she  tried to put in her head that she was only doing what was best for them.

Moving more forward into the present Lucas was three about to be four years old. She was a high school graduate, about to have a Bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing; she lived in the same place for about two and a half years, and has been with the same guy since Landen’s father. She’s got her life together and am more than capable of being the twenty four seven mother that she planned for herself to be back in 2011. As the current situation stands, Lucas comes to her house on the weekends but resides with Marina during the week. This was not the scenario she had in mind of being a mother. It was never her idea to have such hurtful and resentful feelings against her mom who was supposed to be her rock.

Yet the moral of the story is as followed. Nothing in life happens the way people want or expect them to. Lucas is a happy, healthy, and loving boy who has unconditional love in more than one household. Maybe when he gets older, he will decide to come home with Mommy for good, but for now the only thing she can do is let nature take its course with that said, everything in life changes. No one lives in the same house forever, and people learn down the line that other human being come and go. One thing that always remained permanent with Lucas though, he always had and always will be loved.
