A visit to Kamakhya Temple during Ambubachi Mela and my personal experience
The Ambubachi Mela is an annual Hindu Mela held at Kamakhya Temple. This yearly Mela is celebrated during the monsoon season that happens to fall during the Assamese month 'Ahaar' around the middle of the June. It is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of Goddess Maa Kamakhya.
Every year lakhs of pilgrims starting from 'Sadhus' to house-holders from all over India come to Guwahati to observe this Mela festival of Maa Kamakhya Devi. Like other pilgrims I along with my family members also visited the temple during the time of Ambubachi Mela last year. We were total 5 members in our journey. My father, mother, elder brother, mama & myself. That was our first time visit to Kamakhya Temple during Ambubachi time and we were blessed enough as our wishes was soon fulfilled.
We went by our personal car. But as personal car were not allowed to enter through the entrance gate during Mela time, so we have parked our car at Bharalumukh and from there we have boarded a bus to Kamakhya Gate. We got down from the bus at Kamakhya stoppage and from there we have started our journey. It was around 6 p.m when have started our journey . Our journey began with a lot of crowd. As there were huge no. of crowd so it took around 3/4hrs time to reach the main temple. There are two paths you can go by. We have chosen the Narakasura staircase from Nilachal Hills but after climbing 200 steps we found it quite tiring so we prefered to walk through the road.
It is a good experience not to be missed & I truly felt connected with the energy present out there. I was really overwhelmed to see a huge no. of pilgrims gathering from various places just to have a glimpse of the Mela. Security blocked the huge pilgrims in various places of different stoppages. On our journey we have noticed that some of the boys were distributing free glasses of water to the pilgrims by the road- side. As we felt thirsty so we also took some glasses of water and than again continued our journey with other pilgrims very joyfully.
It was around 10 p. m when we reached the main temple. The divine atmosphere at the temple premises soothens our mind & body. The whole temple was well decorated with colourful flowers and designable lights. It was simply awesome, after reaching the main temple we forgot all our pains that carries during 3-4hrs of walking. We offered our prayers from outside as the temple remain closed during this time.
All the surrounding of the temple area is always secured and holy for all visitors. By offering our last prayers we started our return journey.
Visiting Kamakhya Temple during Ambubachi is a divine & pure experience. It is the most enjoyable experience of my life. You see people of all ages, all religions with different capabilities reaching there without any problems. I cannot explain the visit in my words as it just cannot be explained. The divine atmosphere will make you realise that there is presence of God everywhere in the Nilachal Hills. You will have a flow of all the positive energies & spiritual things in your mind while walking the Nilachal Hills. And really it is a privilege to be able to join the pilgrims in the queue for many of whom this is once-in-a-lifetime experience.
It was really a wonderful journey. It must have been the most colourful, exotic and extraordinary Mela I have ever been part of a must visit place.
