Without A Trace
The gate to the lone house opened freely, without a guard at the guard house. There were no cars or signs of anyone around. There was silence.
The men march up to the house, looking puzzled. They banged loudly, shouting threats while impatiently knocking on the door.
It wasn't long before someone opened the door slowly.
"About time!" George called, but he stopped in mid sentence when he saw an old lady standing at the door shocked at the sight of them.
"Who are you and what do you want?" She demanded.
"Where is your grandson?! George spat out.
"Granny what's all the racket about?" A young lady asked from the inside.
The man rudely pushed passed the old lady and forced their way into the house.
The young lady almost dropped the tray she was holding when the men budged in.
"What in the world?" She complained staring hard at the rude man before her.
"Where is Ethan?"
"Who is Ethan?" She asked bemused.
"Put your guns down!" The policeman demanded as they walked in with the little old lady.
George and his men obeyed and were led away by the policemen to the awaiting car.
As soon as they were gone, Thelma turned to her grandmother who was feeling proud of herself for getting rid off those fools for disturbing her peace.
"Granny, where is Ethan?" she asked upset about not knowing what was going on.
"I don't know where he is, nor does his father. Last night I got a call from Gordon telling me that he was missing. And nobody knew where he went."
"Let's have our tea, shall we?"
Thelma sat with her grandmother sipping tea and having their favorite cookies but her mind wandered about what had happened to her cousin.
