Episode 8

"This is my palace, I mean it was", he says.

Ofcourse we couldn't believe. And for instance we thought he was kidding.

"what about the money you got after selling it? ", I ask

"It's all went to fulfill my debts. I am grateful to Mr. Carter who let me live here and pays me. I work here as a caretaker....",

"I am sorry you lost your palace"

"I didn't only lose my palace I lost the pride of my ancestors. They'll be ashamed of me"

"It's okay. You didn't do it on your own. Things happen"

"Yes, Miss. Now please have your meal. I have other things to do. we'll chat some other day"

"Yeah sure sir"

His pink lips form a crescent moon smile. His big round eyes don't wrinkle which tells us the smile is merely a formality. His white face with fine lines shows marks of recalled pain. The tall and stout figure walks away slowly into the elevator and it takes him away.

We three put the food on the table and start to eat. My phone rings. only then remembered I have to return the phone. I take phone out of my pocket of shortalls. It's Mr. Black.

"Yeah Mr. Black"

"How's the work going? "

"We barely started "

"Okay no problem. I wanted to tell you, you are supposed to use the land-line for any communication. It's right next to the elevator. it's fixed in the wall"

"Okay Mr. Black thank you"

"No problem. Don't tell Mr. Carter I called you on this"

"Okay. I wont"

" yeah thanks "

"Mr. Black. where can I find Mr. Carters? "

"Now? "

"Yes"

"He is in his office"

"For how long? "

"Till five in the evening "

"okay thanks. And can you please text me the address? "

"Yeah sure. But why do you want to meet him? You need to make an appointment"

"Appointment? okay. I want to return the phone"

"He won't accept it"

"But I don't want it. It's too expensive "

"See I know the end result still I can force you much. So, let me make an appointment for you or you can talk to him when he comes to the palace tomorrow"

"No, I have to do this today or I won't be able to sleep tonight again"

"Alright as you wish"

"Yes please"

I hear some clicks of buttons and noise of Mr. Black's breathing

"Okay so you have an appointment at 3 'o'clock sharp today and I'll mail you the reminder at 2 pm and also the address"

"You can't mail, can you? I am not allowed to use phone remember? "

"Oh yeah, excuse me. I'll call you then. I'll call at 2 and tell you the address"

"Okay that'll do. Thank you "

"Okay"

I finish my eating and get back to the wall with my paint brushes and some colors. I start from the bottom corner as suggested by Teena. I make a big lotus with black color and fill its petal one by one slowly slowly with different shades of grey and white. Teena and Kabir work with making pallete of colors I require. They pour black in the vessel and mix white color and stir to make the solution consistent. We work together and time flies.
Kabir slips over the spilled paint. and get his back hurt.
Teena picks him up by his arm and supports his waist.

"Stop staring at me", Teena warns him.

"Sorry, I can't resist "

I giggle looking at them. Teena gets irritated and drops him.
Kabir falls down. I burst into laughter. I roll on the floor laughing. Teena kicks the paint bucket. Kabir starts laughing too. He rolls on the floor hold his tummy.
The phone rings. Teena marches up-to the elevator. She picks up the receiver.

"Hello", she begins. "Okay, wait"

"Candace, it's Mr. Black ", she calls out to me

I get up and go. Teena holds receiver to my ear.

"Yes Mr. Black"

"You have an appointment at three with Mr. Carter. Write down the address"

"oh wait wait"

Kabir manages to walk to us with pencil and a paper.

"Say Mr. Black "

"Write, Villacity, street no. 091, Royal tower. Mr. Carter's office is on the 22nd floor. Give me a call when you reach here"

"Okay Mr. Black. thank you so much"

"Leave now, so that you are here at least 15minutes before your appointment "

"Okay sure"

Teena puts the receiver back.
We turn to walk away when the phone rings again.
Teena picks up.

"Hello"

"Hello, this is Mr. Black "

"Yeah say Mr. Black "

"Tell Miss Candace, sir is coming there. She shouldn't come here"

"Okay Mr. Black "

She hangs up the phone.

"What?"

"Mr. Black said Mr. Carter is coming here"

"What? Why? "

"I don't know "
