Details Please
         Part 17

  We walked out of King of Klubs where we all noticed a car parked out front.
  I could see that it was dark in color, and a real nice ride.
  The man standing next to it was tall, wearing a white collar shirt with dark slacks,. The blazer went well with the cowboy boots he wore.

  I can't deny that his fitted pants looked nice on him, and Mina's smile told me that she was thinking the same.

   Judging by his physique, I'd say that he works out.
Husky, blonde shoulder length hair pulled back in a ponytail, his face appeared gentle, but serious.
  His eyes were a light grey, maybe green.
He had a thin mustache, a little darker than his hair. It didn't quite cover his lips, and a trimmed goat-tee added a bad boy look to his gentle face.

Where did he come from I wondered. I certain that he wasn't here tonight because Mina would have been all over this one.

  Mina, and I looked at each other as Sam came and stood by me, while Ben stood in front.
  Looking like he could be someone's bodyguard, the guy took a few steps foward.

Ben said,
  " We're closed!"
He replied,
  " I am here for
Ms. Shannon."

It didn't escape me that he looked at looked at me when he said my name.

Sam asked with authority.
  " And you are?"
The guy cleared his throat, then said,

  " My name is Malekai, I am here on behalf of my employer Dominik."
I quickly asked,
  " Why would he send you here?"

Malekai replied directly to me.
He said,
  " He sent me to make sure you arrive safely to your destination.
I am to offer you a ride."

  Sam looked at me and started to say,
  " Shannon I don't think...."
  I cut him off with a wave of my hand.
I asked looking towards the car.
" Is your boss with
you?"
He replied,
" No ma'am, I am alone."

  I walked towards the edge of the entrance platform.

I said,
  " I see, well Malekai, is it? Kindly tell your boss that I appreciate his concern for my safety, but I already have a ride home."

I started to back away, then I added,
  " My apologies to you Malekai for the wasted trip you had to make."
He asked,
  " Are you sure
Ms. Shannon, it really isn't out of my way."
I said,
  " Absolutely!"
  He went to his car, and I asked Mina,
  "Are you ready girl?"

  With her jaw dropped, Mina was trying to find her voice. I snapped my fingers in front of her face.

I said,
"Hello, earth to Mina!"

   She had a look of disbelief, then slapped me on the shoulder. She has been doing that a lot.
She couldn't believe I refused the offer.

She said,
  " Are you insane? Why didn't you accept the ride? This is chivalry, and a rare thing nowadays."

  I rolled my eyes, and told her,
  " Geezus Mina, it really amazes me how you manage to still be alive.
Lady, that isn't chivalry, nowadays it's called stalking, only with style."

  I thought, wonderful, just what I don't need, a stalker with a potential psycho ex-lover.
  Sam asked if I was alright as I watched the car drive off until it disappeared.

I finally said,
  " Of course! Why wouldn't I be? Don't answer that!"

  Seeing the concern on Sam's face, I reassured him that I was.

I said,
  " Really Sam, I'm good."

  My words were brave, but I don't think he was convinced.

  Now I'm not sure why I didn't feel threatened, but I will say that I was a little upset.

I said,
  " Hey Sam, don't worry, this isn't my first stalker, but if anything ever threatens my safety, I always have Mae."

Ben asked,
  " Who's Mae?"

  Mina giggled then said,
  " Go ahead girl, introduce them to Mae."

Ben said,
" Let me guess, you gave your mace a name."

  Here's the krux, there's a rule when you carry protection.

I said,
  " Mae only appears if I intend to use her, and only when I sense danger."

  Mina laughed when she gave a recap of an incident when she, and I first met last year.

She said,
  " Oh yea, remember when your fanatic wouldn't take "not interested" as an option? He decided that you belonged to him."

  I'm sure Sam figured out that Mae is a concealed weapon.

Sam let out a belly laugh then said,
  " Mother of God, and here I thought of you as a helpless damsel."

  He scratched his head, then patted me on the shoulders, giving them a squeeze.
Then he added,
  " You are something else!"

  Now by this time Jack had finally joined us, and Sam still laughing, he proceeded to lock the doors.

Jack asked,
  " What's so funny? What'd I miss?"

Mina said while looking at me,
  "Oh nothing much. Are you ready girl?"
  I nodded, and she added,
  " Ok then, let's get the flock outta here. Hasta la bye-bye guys."

  We got into her eclipse, and headed out. I was feeling exhausted, and hoped the ride home would be a quiet one.
No such luck.
Mina was like a reporter ready to ask questions.
I could feel her itching to start the interrogation.
  She cleared her throat, and I whispered,
" Here we go!"

  She asked with excitement,
  " Well?"

  I wanted to laugh because her face appeared comical.

I asked,
  " Well what?"
 
I gave her a smile, and for some reason she seemed frustrated.

She said,
  " Ugh, tell me about it!"

  I really wish I could stop laughing, but resisting the opportunity to tease her was impossible.

I asked,
" What do you mean? Tell you about what?"

She blew out a hard breath that almost looked painful.

She said,
" Damnit Shannon!"

I asked,
  " Ok, okay, what do you want to know?"

She took in a deep breath then let the words roll out.

She asked,
  " Tell me what you and Señor Gorgeous talked about. Did you get his number? Where's he from? Are y'all going to hook up?
If y'all do, when will you see him again?"

  I'm amazed that she didn't stop to take a breath. I laughed, holding my hand up, and said,
  " Whoa girl, slow down, take a deep breath."

A moment later, Mina had calmed down.

I continued,
  " Good girl, slow is good. Now about Dominik."

  She asked raising an eyebrow.
  " Dominik? Nice!"

  I agreed with her,
and said,
  " I thought so too, the name suits him. It's sorta devilish, ya know? Like demonic, dominik! No? Ok well to answer your questions, we had idle chit chat. I didn't ask where he's from. No, we aren't hooking up, and I didn't get his number. About seeing him again, it would be nice, but I seriously doubt it. Any other questions Ms. Reporter?"

  Mina looked disappointed that I didn't have anything juicy to tell her.

I asked,
  " What? Did you expect to hear that we got it on out back? Sorry Missy, nothing like that happened."

She said,
  " That's too bad because I could tell he really liked you. I mean he watched you all night."

I said,
  " Yea, well so did Goldie Locks!"

  She said with a frown on her face.
  " I noticed that too, what the fuck was up with Ms Nose up in the air."

I just shrugged my shoulders.

She added,
  " She didn't like you very much, or the place for that matter."

I said,
  " Maybe it's just as well."

  Mina gave me a questioning look, and I
knew what she wanted to know.

I answered,
   " Meaning I don't need problems!"

  I went on to explain that even though Dorian introduced Dominik as a dear friend, I got the feeling that she had a thing for him.

  Mina quickly said,
  " Or maybe it was an affair gone wrong, and she isn't ready to let him go."

  Shrugging my shoulders again
I said,
  " Who knows!"

She said,
  " It's kind of creepy if you ask me, an odd mix of psycho/ generous tipper. Don't you think?"

  I just nodded in agreement.

Mina continued,
  " But if he's not interested in her anymore, or never was, and it's obvious that he's into you, maybe y'all can make it work."

  Mina looked at me, and asked with frustration.

  " Why are you shaking your head?"

  I was equally frustrated, and it resonated in my answer.
  " Because Mina, I honestly am not emotionally available at this point in my life, and I don't think I will ever be."

  I hated that I allowed myself to open up like this to her.

I continued,
  " Even if I wanted to, I can't ignore the fact that I can't get my shit together, let alone keep a relationship from going to crap. Plus I don't need to deal with the issues of a gilted lover, which can only add fuel to a potentially hot mess of a relationship."

Mina didn't say anything, and it was quiet for a moment. She appeared to be defeated, and I was sure that the questioning was over.
Boy was I wrong.

She said,
  " I guess a roll in the sheets every now, and then wouldn't be so bad. Especially with a guy like Dominik, or Malekai."

   Once again flashes of red satin, and flames came, and went. It was really irritating that I couldn't hold on to these images.

  We finally pulled up to the front of the building, and I was glad the interview is over, thus ending the girl talk.
  I turned to her, and saw the pout on her lips.

I said,
  " Don't look so disappointed.
Thanks for the ride, I really appreciate it."

  I got off, then patted the window before she drove off.

I asked her,
  " You are going home right?"

She replied with a somber look on her face.
  " Yea, Tom won't be back for another two weeks."

  I bit my lip in thought. I do that when I worry, but I decided to dismiss it.

Finally I said,
  " Alright, call me when you get home."

  She gave me a salute, rolled the window up, and drove off.
  Shaking my head, I let out a quiet laugh.
I thought about how I try to keep my distance from everyone on a personal level. With Mina, it wasn't so easy. I guess  she was starting to grow on me.
  Maybe she already
            has.
