Lost Childhood 27
She looked at him wide-eyed. There was silence for a minute and then she asked, “Did I do something wrong?” He shook his head. He saw that this was not going to be easy nor was lunch going to be a pleasurable experience. There was still an uncomfortable silence in between them. Then he finally broke the quietness and told her that he was going to talk with her about it at lunch, but if she really needed his explanation now, he would gladly relieve her curiosity.

Now she shook her head and told him she would patiently wait until then; she asked him how his day was going. He told her that it had been a really unexpectedly great day; he had gotten all his requests approved and now he was having lunch with one of his favorite people. Sara smiled, returning the smile Alex had given her. Why was he always making her smile? Not even Jorge made her smile this much; maybe it was because Alex was always smiling.

His was a really nice one; it was just perfect. His teeth were also perfect, pearly white and every one of them were aligned so evenly. Hair that was dark brown and wavy and the white of his eyes were as bright as his teeth, with light brown pupils and a darker brown encircling them. At a height of five feet and ten inches Sara thought he looked too perfect and he was what she considered a heartbreaker.

When they arrived at the place they were having lunch, which was a little taco stand; the truck that housed the taco stand was parked next to a small park with lots of trees and several picnic tables. Alex asked her if the place was okay and she nodded. It was much more casual than the restaurant last night and she felt a lot more comfortable. They waited for their food and then found a table well shaded to enjoy what they had ordered.

Sara had discovered that Alex was a very big eater, but you couldn’t tell from his physique; he was muscular and well built and could have easily been a model if he hadn’t chosen law enforcement as a career. He finished eating before Sara so he asked her if he could explain his actions earlier. He told her he had taken the phone back not because of anything she had or hadn’t done but he felt he was possibly putting her in danger. He told her that was something he never wanted to ever do.
