A change of heart

The car sped through the dark night, it's headlights flashing, warning the incoming traffic danger is ahead. Is it an accident? A road crumbled under boulders from the mountain? An animal run over but still clinging to life?
I won't know until I get further up the road; however, my mind still reels to the ideas. The wonderfully awful ideas. Soon, I finally come up to the area the lights warned me about.. and it is so much worse than I could have imagined.
Two cars and an RV, or rather, their frames standing in the middle of the dark two lane road. The flashing lights of first responders lighting up the scene. Only one other vehicle - an eighteen wheeler - stumbled upon this...
