The Wind Chime-Final Part:The Return
After several days of endless confusion, April enlisted the help of the local shaman. He entered into a trance during a ritual and announced that the spirit of the girl who had died in the fire, lived inside the wind chime. The spirit wanted to return to her ‘home’ on the mountain.
April set off with the wind chime in a covered box. The journey took her two days and she finally reached the mountain top. It was a beautiful place albeit the burnt down house. As April approached the place, she had goosebumps all over. There was an air of uneasiness and spooky feeling Then the box in her hand started to rattle. It shook so hard that the box fell and the wind chime was exposed.
The wind chime began to vibrate while on the ground. It trembled so much as though there was an invisible hand moving it. April picked up the wind chime and hung it at the half burnt bar across the house terrace.
Then, she stepped back and called out, “Spirit of this house, you are home now.”
Almost at once, the wind chime stopped tinkling and swayed slowly as though thanking April. She then left the mountain and began to head for home. That night, she heard a soft tinkling for the last time. Was it her imagination or the spirit returned to thank her and say goodbye? Whatever it was, April felt free again.
