FOR OR AGAINST YOUR PEOPLE (Chapter 1)
It was a sunny day as usual, with men and women working so hard on their farms and water bodies just to get something small for their families. Children running around, playing games like ampe, pilolo and the old men playing oware. It seemed like it was a lively day for the people of Nframabo village.
Now from that village came a respectable family called the Ansah family. The head of the family was called Nana Kweku Ansah, who has a wife from Achiase in the east. They had three children namely; Nana Yaa Ansah, Nana kwame Ansah and Nana Akua Ansah.
Since Nana kwame was the only boy in the family, his attention caught the eye of many in the village. Thus, his respectful nature and hardwork added positive credit to his family. He was always blessed by the people of the village, especially the elderly.
Suddenly it so happened that the village was about to celebrate their festival to appease their gods for taking them through a successful year. Everyone with excited wore their best clothing for the celebration, with joys and smiles all over their faces.
There was an effective drumming and dancing during the festival, with dancing all around. The drumming and dancing ceased as the priest Okomfo Adjei lifted up his right hand. He began to recite some incantations, fear gripped everyone and then he paused for a while. Okomfo Adjei began to speak, he said,"The god pankye otu had demanded a sacrifice of a young man as a thanksgiving offering. And that young man is Nana Kwame Ansah."
Everyone became astonished at the words he spoke. Nana Kwame's mum held her son so tightly and screamed,"No! I won't allow you to take the life of my son!" Nana kwame was super scared that his heart began to pound so fast, he began to shiver like as if it was a cold day because fear gripped him immensely.
Nana kwame saw that if care is not taken he would be used as a sacrifice. So he had no choice than to run away if he wanted to live. So he gathered courage and took to his heels. Upon the king seeing this he became extremely furious that he ordered the soldiers to go after him. Everyone stood in awe of what just happened because such has not occurred in the village before.
The soldiers went after his with guns, daggers and cutlass just to bring him back to the village. Nana kwame took to his heels as fast as his legs could carry him, thus never thought of looking back. The soldiers became weary along the line. One of them aimed the gun at Nana kwame and shot. Sadly the bullet hit his shoulder bone and was bleeding immensely.
He got to the coast of the sea and began to feel dizzy, he turned and fainted. The soldiers came to meet him lying on the ground with blood oozing from his shoulder. They wanted to send him back to the village but they were scared. One of them said,"We can't send him back. If we do the King would be furious with us because he told us to bring him not to shoot him. We can be jailed or killed for this."
The other asked,"So what are we going to do!?" The other replied,"Let's tear a part of his clothe and dip it into the blood of an animal. There after we go to the village and announce that he was killed by a wild creature. If they ask us into details we just have to tell them we killed the animal." The soldiers counted it as a good idea. So they killed an animal and dipped a part of his clothes into the blood of the animal. To prove their innocence the carried the animal they killed into the village.
The soldiers arrived to the village and blew a horn to announce the death of Nana kwame. They did according to as they planned by telling the village he was killed by a wild beast. People began to mourn, especially the family of Nana kwame. His father could not control the pain he had and through that he became ill. The festival was put a stop for a while for some days. Meanwhile his father was in bed for several days. Each and everyday the condition worsened, until one day he had a heart attack and kicked the bucket.
More misery and sorrow for the Ansah family. No amount of consolation could take away the sorrow that was implanted in their hearts. This was so because the men that brought joy and vitality were all gone. The king had sympathy for them and compensated them with some amount of gold, foodstuffs and other material stuffs to be able to fend for themselves.
