The doctor gushed, placing the wailing infant on the woman's chest.
She heaved trying to catch her breath in the aftermath of her gruelling labour. Tears of pain mingled briefly with tears of joy before dissolving into tears of sadness.
She had once again given birth to a girl! Her third daughter. What would her husband and in-laws do to her now?...
I walked down the street as the snow mixed with the rain attempted to push me off my feet. My thin jacket or my sneakers was no good in this New York winter weather. I had to be the only fool to try to go out in the storm. I heard footsteps behind me, running through the slush of the snow. I try to pick up my speed as my teeth clatter against the coldest. I felt the strength picked me up, pulling me into the shadows, that day, I came face to face with something that wasn't human as the smell of a rotten corpse consumes the air. The fear causes me to stay in place as it took in my scent. I stared at his face seeing nothing but veins and blood. It gripped me on my shoulders. Jarring pain shot through my hands as I felt my skin starting to disappear from them! It felt like a surreal nightmare as the skin from my hands started to cover the veins and...
