Dream to Live Another Day
Chapter One: Morning rush hour

The day strikes with harsh cold and the blinding light of the sun. No one could have predicted how unatural the weather climate had changed so suddenly since Summer. Time had reached December and all was calm and quiet on the streets of New Jersey. Children were socially occupied and pursuing cat and mouse games in the school playground, yelling and chasing one another. Elderly couples retreated to the park to admire the views of Lower Manhatten, the opposite side of Brooklyn Bridge. The blinding light of the sun melted the city skyline with relentless spiritual burst of energy. The morning was dangerous to drive on the roads especially, when you can't clearly see things to plan ahead. Today was another working day for Becky Steward, a professional Nurse Matron and a Mother of three young children. The streets began to pack with building traffic noises and endless line of vehicles before the neighbourhood's eyes. City began to wake up to a new busy day. Becky stood firm in front of the lounge window, on the upper floor of her house. She gazed into the bright skyline horizon, as her face expressed an uplifting smile. Becky attested this moment with her eyes and remarked with a whisper "Life is beautiful"; Three deep breaths were inhaled as she knew time drew nearer to the long work shift scheduled for half an hour later. Her drifted mentality returned to normality. Becky's youngest daughter Jessica approached her from behind and responded with with a firm quiet tone "Mommy, it's school time. What's wrong Mommy?" she said with a curious mind. Becky replied in an enlightened mood, "I got you a bunny rabbit for Christmas. Be good and I'll give you a good surprise, I promised you". Jessica was enthusiastic and cheerful all of sudden about the christmas gift. She rushed off to the car and waited for Becky to drive her to school.

Unlike other hostipals she worked in before, Becky was overwhelmed by the work load and busy fast paced work environment she was situated in. The movement of hospital beds carrying helpless patients being channelled left, right and through hallways, a site unbearable to witness as an unregulated high blood pressure. The admission A & E department was faced with a pandemic crisis staff nurses could not have imagined or even contemplate. Doctors, Nurses and Physicians were about to fall into despair under the stressful strain as, their souls were consumed by the serious needs of bossy strangers and ill health patients. The team's superiors ensured law and order was upheld in the emergency ward division. The Managers gave assertive rhetoric speeches to the their working staff, about challenging hopes that will help everyone get through these struggling times in the ward. Becky and her closest colleagues did not really care about debriefings as they heard the same announcements all the time, with no progress in management support. There was nothing but excessive work, tough times and bickering of mistrust in the nursing care team. Tears of cries and heartbreaks resonated amongst the whole community of brave poor souls in the emergency department.

Becky was working on a lot of diverse duties; checking and monitoring patients, setting the resuscitation apparatus, performing x-ray scanning on patients and managing her special team of Nurse Experts she personally admired. At one time, her Managing Director summoned her to main reception, to tell Becky she had a scheduled appointment taking place at the medical...
